I am STUNNINGLY surprised by the amount of good reviews on here. Maybe we just caught them on an off day, but I visited with some coworkers to celebrate one of our team members moving on to bigger and better things somewhere else recently. We were all really excited to go to a rooftop bar and catch a great view of the city. One side of that view is beautiful... The other maybe more of a view of concrete and parking lots. A great view of Canes and Chick fil a. Not anyone's fault just sit close to the bar and not the pool if there for view!
The service started off very good and we really liked the first waitress that we had. I wish I could remember her name! She was so sweet and even went out of her way to tell me what nail polish color that she was wearing because I complimented it.
We asked her when happy hour started and that was when we should have had our first red flag. They don't have a set Happy hour time and very casually state that it happens around sunset. They also do not have a happy hour menu. So even though it does advertise on their website that they have a happy hour the "deals" that we got were a normal priced $16 cocktail marked to $15 and an appetizer of Korean BBQ chips that basically tasted like lays bagged chips dipped in an okay onion dip mixed with gochujang to make it "Korean BBQ" for $9. My coworker ordered the corn salsa and it was just corn and diced tomato with no real liquid to hold it together. Our cocktails were okay - but avoid the frozen drinks (funky taste altogether) and don't drink from the nice eco straws - they make the drink taste strange.
To truly round it out - my coworker ordered one drink that was not on the menu and his check for the ONE DRINK ended up at $30 for the evening before tip. We could tell that the staff (besides our first waitress) were not enthused to have us there. And I think the mention of happy hour confirmed to them that we're maybe not their usual clientele. We had come prepared to leave tips and were just looking to have a fun celebratory experience for our coworker! Ended up memorable for the wrong reasons but at least we had good company and the cocktail I got second was strong enough to give me a small buzz!
Definitely a great place to swim and maybe snag a day pass to take your kids and hang by the pool with a drink in hand. Good music and ambiance. But the views are mid, the drinks are decent but overpriced, and the food is...
Read moreShantel bartender at Otopia Rooftop Bar absolutely made our afternoon! From the moment we arrived, she greeted us with the warmest smile and genuine enthusiasm that set the tone for an incredible evening. As both our bartender and server, she seamlessly juggled multiple roles while never missing a beat. Her cocktail recommendations were spot-on - she clearly knows her craft and took the time to understand our preferences before suggesting the perfect drinks. The attention to detail in both her mixology and table service was impressive. She kept our glasses full, checked on us at just the right intervals, and made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. What really stood out was Shantel’s personality - she’s the kind of person who makes you feel like a valued regular even on your first visit. Her knowledge of the menu, drink pairings, and Austin’s rooftop scene added so much value to our experience. Even during what appeared to be a busy night, she maintained her professionalism and upbeat energy. The combination of Otopia’s stunning rooftop views and Shantel’s exceptional service created a perfect Austin afternoon out. We’ll definitely be back, and we’ll absolutely be requesting to sit in her section. Shantel is a true asset to the Otopia team and exactly the kind of hospitality professional that makes Austin’s service industry shine. Highly recommend asking for Shantel when you visit - you won’t be...
Read moreA couple items. The hotel staff here are friendly at the Otis and I love staying here. As an ambassador member for Marriott, I like to stay at this location for day away vacas to unwind. I recommend the hotel and the location for everyone to come and stay. Now for last night, the Otopia had a small event for New Year's. I love the roof top and the sunsets are great here. My issue last night was the DJ the Hotel or rather Otopia hired for New Year's Celebration. The music was absolutely horrible and talking to my party and other guests staying at the hotel, I realized I wasn't the only one feeling that way. A night like this is a time to dance and celebrate and unfortunately that wasn't the case. I felt like I was in a strip club and last night wasn't the time for that. Everyone is looking to dance and celebrate and the DJ was pretty interested in catering to a party in the booth behind him instead of catering to everyone. He shouldn't have just been focused on one or two genres of Music. Also, working employees shouldn't be drinking on the job and putting your liquor license on possible suspension. I get it's New Year's but definitely felt like it started off positive and while the night progressed, especially close to midnight, it turned into some off the wall underground music that most people couldnt get into. Highly disappointed...
