The issue of homosexuality or more specifically its status in the Bible is likely never going to be decided once and for all to the satisfaction of all churches. When the church ordained a "monogamous"gay deacon in the 1990s long before gay marriage was a modern day reality, the staff pastor to college students was either fired or resigned in protest. He had a sizable gaggle of UT students who left as well. The departure of those young dissenters (most of whom were from more mainstream fellowships) actually cleared the way for the church to become what it is either condemned or celebrated for to this very day. But like minded folks should worship together and divergent opposing views about the Bible is why we have Protestantism and a zillion denominations. It was Chesterton who famously said where orthodoxy is not mandatory it soon becomes optional and an individual or a group's movement down (or at least along) the continuum of tolerance, acceptance, affirmation, celebration of any perceived vice is a swift journey. If you set aside the church's status as a bullhorn platform for or adjunct to all things LGBTQ you still have folks collectively serving as the hands and feet of our Lord.
