Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Phoebe's Diner in Austin, and it was an experience worth sharing. Accompanied by the Knead God family, we indulged in some truly remarkable dishes that left us craving more.
First up was the Fried Chicken & Grits – a dish that transcended our expectations. The succulent fried chicken breasts paired with goat cheese grits were nothing short of brilliant. What truly elevated this dish was the addition of maple hot sauce and pickled chiles. The marriage of flavors, with the creamy goat cheese grits contrasting perfectly with the sweet heat of the maple sauce, was a taste sensation like no other. It's a testament to the chef's creativity and skill that such seemingly disparate elements could come together in such a harmonious way.
Next, we sampled the Brisket Benny – a hearty and savory creation that deserves all the praise it can get. Chopped BBQ brisket, nestled on buttermilk biscuits, topped with over easy eggs and hollandaise, and drizzled with BBQ sauce – this dish was a carnivore's dream. The brisket was clearly smoked to perfection, with a mouthwatering smokiness that can only come from a skilled pitmaster. The accompanying hash brown casserole and garnish of green onion added a comforting touch that completed the meal perfectly.
I must emphasize that there should be no assumptions made here – the brisket at Phoebe's Diner is the real deal. They take their smoking seriously, and it shows in every bite. Whether you're a BBQ aficionado or simply someone looking for a delicious brunch, the Brisket Benny is an...
Read moreGet to this diner. Just get there.
As usual, first time to a place, and I manage to wolf down my meal, before getting pics. Pardon! But, my entire experience at Phoebe's Diner, I can assure you, was top-notch.
I showed up on Thanksgiving afternoon, 2024, and was immediately greeted by Jana (spelling?), who sold me on the Thanksgiving Day special, and did so, with great ease.
Before I get to the food (fantastic comfort food), let me speak on this staff - they are the absolutely bestest, most wonderful and absolutely most adorable group of folks.
Jana was charming as hell. I needed a meal and some friendly cohorts, on this holiday. I could not have chosen better.
These folks are genuine as all hell, which leads me to believe they are well taken care of, by their employer, and, equally, genuinely care for one another, as coworkers.
Listen up, employers! This is how it's done! You think this doesn't reach customers?
[laughs deeply in awkward scotch-irish accent]
For supper - pardon, I forget the name - I had a cornmeal-breaded, fried chicken breast, atop a cornbread made with honey and nutmeg, encircled by mashed potatoes and gravy. Sautéed green beans were the green to accompany, and were perfectly cooked. Really, everything was. Everything was fresh.
Even got to peek at and wave to the kitchen folk, who prepared my meal! I do appreciate a sense of neighborhood, especially on a holiday.
Also, the cocktails are great.Tasty, and, was feelin' pretty good, a few sips in.
Love you ladies, y'all are...
