Been wanting to review this place. Went to their soft opening and got a ton of stuff and was so excited to try them all! Everything looked so good and we wanted to sample everything!
Love how cute this place is! Love how it’s so thematic purple! Love the location as well. Love how it’s clean and spacious. It’s near us well near to work at Domain. Across from Mighty Fine and Chipotle and right off Mopac too! So convenient. Especially for grab and go concept. We even did a little picnic outside where there are tables by the parking lot. So fun!
Ok the food ahh where do I begin? Love the kimbap! One of the best I’ve had. Love how full they are. Everything we got tasted homemade and fresh. I bought a few for our college son and his roomie and girlfriend too. It’s perfect for college kids. Easy to heat up. It’s great for working people too. Grab and go!
The beef rice bowls and bulgogi were all delicious. Everyone loved the spicy pork bento as well. We do favor the ube Rice Krispies lol so good! The sides were all pretty yummy as well. Just love how fresh everything is. And everything is reasonably priced as well especially since it shows they put so much love and care into each dish. And it’s just so convenient. If you want a home cooked meal but don’t feel like cooking that night.
Hope they do well because the owners are the nicest people too! So kind and sweet. So helpful as well. Solid people and yummy Korean homey comfort food....
Read moreI went to the soft opening and was pleasantly surprised at how perfectly ripe the kimchi was. The bok choy tastes less ripe so if you don't like as much tang to your kimchi, that might be a better option for you. Everyone was very curteous and helpful, answering all questions about the food. There were some samples of some treats and a good variety of freshly made food: bento boxes, bibimbap, and even soup. I had yukgaejang (soup), beef bibimbap, tofu, vegan kimchi, bok choy kimchi, gochujang shredded squid, anchovy peppers jorim, and pumpkin spice crispy rice treats. Everything was delicious! I often only visit Korean restaurants in Austin no more than once or twice because those places are not as good as my family's home cooking. But I will definitely come here for quick meals and banchan (side dishes) again! The only thing I might say is that picky eaters might check the ingredients of the bibimbap before purchasing because all the ingredients are in the bowl together. If you're cool with picking stuff out, it may not be an issue. And if you have sesame oil at home, I recommend adding a teaspoon of toasted sesame oil before mixing, along with gochujang (my personal preference). I thought the pricing was very fair--comparable to or slightly cheaper than what I would expect from a large grocery store's ready made...
Read moreI come here all the time with my boyfriend. We love Korean food and we’re really excited to get a new grab and go restaurant in our area since we work from home. We came to try Purple Rice in the first few days they opened and were not disappointed. The setup is clean and new, with a really cool grocery area, cold area for banchan, kimchis, and broths and a hot isle for bibimbaps, hot egg soups (YUM), dosiraks, and other hot offerings like spicy brisket soups and tteokbokki. Number one, the food is seriously good. I am slowly making my way to try every dish that they offer lol. My favorites so far are the bibimbap of course, and the yukjaejang soup (spicy brisket stew). Soooo good. I also am a huge pickle and kimchi fan so I am always trying their assortment of house kimchis and banchan. If you’re into Korean food, or just tasty food in general, Purple Rice is a very easy spot to become a regular at. The staff are always so kind and they are happy to assist with anything you need as a customer. The food feels nutritious and healthy and you can even get some yummy desserts here too. Definitely worth coming by here to...
