Iâve always been a little more androgynous on the feminine scale so when I came time for my wedding, I was really nervous about hair and makeup in particular. I wanted to look like myself with short hair and natural makeup without having to pay the cost of a traditional bride hair and make up. However, I also didnât want to shortchange my bridal party who all have long hair ranging from stick straight to Shirley Temple curly. LUX had the perfect package for me. As an androgynous bride, I went with their gender neutral service that gave me light hair styling, and basic skin retouching. My bridesmaids had the âI Do crewâ package with hair and makeup. Everyone was really satisfied with the flexibility of the hair stylist and the makeup stylist. My makeup stylist Sara Shaikhzadeh was very nice and gave me some excellent tips for hydrating my skin when I went in for my initial makeup trial. She listened to all of my thoughts and I really loved the look she gave me for my wedding day. I felt like she highlighted all of my best features! She also did an excellent job setting the look for the day. I have a bad habit of scratching at my face and ruining makeup, but whatever she used stayed on all day, and felt really light. My hair stylist Ashley Nixon was also very nice and did a wonderful job on my hair! I love using styling gels on a regular basis, but they can be a little stiff looking. She listened to my concerns about stiffer gels and worked with my hair until it was light and textured, but stayed in place all night long despite my aggressive dancing. She also did an excellent job working with all the different hair textures of my bridesmaids. Everyone was really happy with their looks and had no problem dancing the night away without one hair moving out of place. I really enjoyed working with LUX and I would recommend them to anyone for any big events or even if youâre just looking for a makeover day! They were great to work with, and I would definitely book...
Read moreLUX was a decent option for wedding hair for myself (the bride), the mother of the bride, my bridesmaids, and the groom. However, it was a bit overpriced for what you get. The styles were simple. None of the hair styling really blew me away.
For textured (black) hair, my mother had to give the stylist A LOT of feedback to get her hair how she liked it. My bridesmaids ended up busting out their own curling irons after being styled by LUX hair stylists in order to get their hair exactly how they preferred it to be. That's not a good look. For all the money you are paying, that shouldn't need to happen.
My hair stylist put my veil on. It stayed in for pictures before the ceremony. But during the ceremony, it fell off three times!!! That was a bit embarrassing. Also, for the groom service it was overpriced too for what you get. My husband had to adjust his hair after the stylist left to get it exactly how he liked. Again, not what you want when you're paying so much money for someone else to style it for you.
Moreover, there are SOOO many fees that they charge you. They are upfront about pricing, but the fees are excessive and add up quickly. It's more about the experience of being pampered on that day and not having to stress about lifting a finger to get yourself ready. That's what you're paying for.
For makeup, it was GORGEOUS! I was so happy with my makeup and upgraded lashes (that I paid an ADDITIONAL FEE for). It was really stunning and lasted all night long. I HIGHLY encourage brides to PAY EXTRA for the bridal trial for hair and makeup. It's necessary to feel comfortable the day of. I wish there was a bridesmaid trial. If so, I think my mother and bridesmaids would have had a better experience. One thing I'm happy I did is schedule my bridal trial the same day as my engagement photos. So smart because my hair and makeup was professional done for those photos which we used for the wedding invitations and...
Read moreI hired LUX to do my hair and make up for my rehearsal dinner and then for myself and bridesmaids for my wedding.
First hair- So Amanda Bennett was not my original stylist from my trials. A few days before my wedding, my stylist got sick so Lux found a replacement, sent me images from her instagram that were similar to the style we had picked (asking if that was ok first) etc. So my first meeting with Amanda is when she is showing up to do my hair for the Rehearsal Dinner. She had never touched my hair before (though she and the original stylist had talked and shared notes etc). She did the BEST party pony for Friday night that I think is my husbands favorite way my hair has ever been and I seriously want to hire her to teach me how to do it myself. It is the best hair I have EVER had. She also did such a stunning updo for the actual wedding. My hair looked so smooth and soft, but allowed for movement. She also was a true artist in her placement of the flowers for my hair. Amanda is so kind and was really a great hype woman to have on my team.
Now the makeup - Chrysta was my artist from my first trial on and each time she did my make up got better and better. I was very indecisive for my first trial and so we talked it through and tried something more dramatic to see. It looked great but as I wanted to also try a new hair style I figured I would try something a bit softer make up wise too. I showed her the pictures and pointed out what I wasnât sure about without having words as to why and she just KNEW. She adjusted my lash (the style and placement), picked lovely colors, listened to my feedback on how the make up wore on my face after a while. She asked the same questions about how my make up held up Friday before starting on Saturday morning so she could make any necessary adjustments. She showed me how to touch up areas that are just gonna need it after hours of sweating in Texas. Also, yâall, she...
