You know that scene from ratatouille? The one where the food critic tries the food, and the memory of that food tasted so similar to his favorite childhood meal, it makes him re-live a happy memory from the past? Well, that was me today. I just never thought I'd being a regular food critic myself when this happened to me!
I took one bite from this dish, and I got sent back in time 20 years to my favorite burger joint, now long since closed down, where they had the best cheeseburgers and fries, with a very similar sauce to this one. I could almost hear the mynah birds chirping and feel the Hawaiian sun overhead, feel the gentle breeze swaying the treetops outside the restaurant with my family eating and laughing together, that's how strong the memory was. I had just been thinking of that place, wishing I could have just one more burger and was sad that it had been so long since I'd eaten there, that I'd almost forgotten the taste of it..
Well, here I am twenty years later, and I finally found the closest thing to reliving a very happy childhood memory. I was wandering through the Aventura Mall, saw this sushi place, and merely thought, "it's been a while since I've had sushi, and I could eat." That's it. I wasn't expecting this at all! I'm smiling as I'm writing this.
I told the cook how happy he made me, and he smiled and thanked me, but I'm the grateful one. And if you think I'm merely nostalgia-addled, let me get to the describing-part of this review for ya.
The creatively named "Screaming Orgasm" dish, which is finely- sliced bigeye tuna of high-grade rosy-pink hue, which is liberally doused in the sweet yet umami, bright orange sauce, sits on top of shredded pickled cabbage with just a hint of mayo and lemon, if I'm not mistaken. Sitting neatly on top of all that is a small mound of masago roe, to deliver an appealing crunch.
I also did my due diligence as a food tester and sampled a variety of dishes - the butter crab roll - buttery but not overpowering, overflowing with crab meat with a bowl brimming with plenty of soy sauce to dunk the perfectly sliced rolls into.
I had the salmon roll, which was chunks of salmon wrapped in delicious rice in a California roll-style, it was very filling.
I had a bowl of edamame, they had regular or spicy, I chose regular, which came served in a lovely little woven basket and a jade-green bowl for the husks. You do have to peel them, but that's have the fun. it came with a sprinkle of sea salt, which added to the flavor.
I had the 12-piece sushi sampler, which came in three neat rows of salmon, tuna, and a third bright pink fillet which I forgot to ask what it was, but was very sweet to the taste. The salmon was of the highest caliber, silky smooth with lovely stripes of fat layering the bright orange meat. you could try spreading some wasabi on it, or not, it's totally up to you, both are delicious.
So come on down and try the best sushi in the USA. If you see a big guy at a table with, like, twenty of the same dish in front of him with a happy smile on his face, that's probably me reliving my childhood days, because I'm becoming a regular here. I live over an hour away, but even if this restaurant were all the way in Key West, I'd make the drive every weekend. You can't put a price on food like this.
Thank you, staff at Pub-belly sushi. You made me a very happy man today. You should be very proud of your team and of your food. Have a good one,...
Read moreLast night, my family and I dined at Pubbelly Sushi Aventura for the first time, and I must say, the service was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in until we left, the staff ensured our experience was memorable and enjoyable.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with genuine smiles and a warm welcome. The hostess immediately acknowledged my family and escorted us to our table, which was perfectly set and situated in a comfortable, family-friendly area of the restaurant.
Our server, Matthew, was exceptional! Matthew introduced himself with a friendly demeanor and made sure to explain the specials of the day in detail. Throughout the meal, he was attentive without being intrusive, refilling our drinks promptly and checking in to ensure everything was to our satisfaction.
The food Matthew recommended was absolutely delightful. We started with the appetizer; Tostones Con Ceviche, Korean Wings, Short Rib & Truffle Dumplings, RockShrimp Tempura Buffalo, which was perfectly seasoned and presented. For the main course, my family and I shared Crispy Salmon Roll, Acebichado Lobster Roll, Yellowtail Roll, Wagyu Beef Tartare, which was divine, and it exceeded all expectations in both flavor and portion size. The Crispy Salmon was so delicious we ordered a 2nd round, of course!
What truly set the experience apart were the special touches. The manager, Angel, came out to greet us and asked for our feedback on the dishes. Additionally, the staff surprised us with a complimentary Mochi Ice Cream to celebrate our visit, which was a delightful and much-appreciated gesture. Our server, Matthew, suggested we order the Miso Bread Pudding Dessert. Each bite consistency was rich and savory, so delicious that I would just come back for that dessert.
Overall, the service at Pubbelly Sushi Aventura was top-notch. The staff's attention to detail, friendly demeanor, and commitment to providing a wonderful dining experience for our family made it a night to remember. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic family...
Read moreFrom the moment me my friends walked in the music sounded great. Sound system is awesome in there. The restaurant has an inviting smell and the lighting is great. I would probably dim lights a little more to add some more intimacy, in my opinion. The service was great. Matthew took care of us. What a special man. He made us all laugh and feel welcomed immeditately. He explained the dishes we had questions about with ease. My friend has a fish allergy, weird, and he knew exactly what to suggest to accommodate her. We had the crispy hamachi sashimi, butter crab roll duhhhh, the big eye tuna, salmon robota, lobster doughnuts, sake aburi roll ( which he suggested, was my favorite), and all the nigiris! Skirt steak robota was my friends choice who has the allergy! SO GOOOOD! Great options.
The manager angel was so sweet! She came by and checked on us and even delivered some of the food and assured we were enjoying our experience. She really knows what she is doing. Such professionalism and authenticity. It's not easy finding a solid leader and I can tell she truly knows what she is doing ! Even chef Frank came by, what a cute little man. He has a cute goatee and he wears a newsboy hat. What a look. You know he attempted to be funny when delivering the food and I give him 5 stars for that. Was he funny.... ehhh... he can use some work on his comedy. But, the food they are producing is so good ! It makes up for the average jokes lol lol JUST KIDDING! Totally appreicated him & we look forward to seeing the crew at pubbelly again soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
