Sooooo...if you haven't been, you gotta go!!!
I'm talkin' 'bout the Sunny Side Café located on the lower level of our new Lexington Market.
This husband & wife-owned/operated café is definitely what's happenin'! They're young, but not novices; seriously creative, energetic, visionary, humble and determined to do business the way God leads them and gracious too!!!
On top of all that...THE FOOD (the reason for existence) IS 💣💣💣💫💫💫💥💥💥 --- yes, 3 bombs, 3 stars and 3 pows for The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost 'cause He's in the mix!!!
Sunny Side is really cuuute. 'Back of the house' is small, but well organized. From observation of the set-up, food prep and cooking techniques...it looks like somebody been to school! If not, they've learned alotalotalot during their journey to here. IJS...in most small settings, don't nobody know nothin' 'bout no Aioli or marinating FRESH chicken tenderloins so the tenders, with a lightly-seasoned coating...NOT breaded, and fried just right and are wonderfully moist! Great bread choices help to elevate menu items. Along with being pleasing to the eye, portions are larger than average and nicely 'plated' which is always a plus in my book!!!
Eventhough I'm not a sweet bacon kind of person, my BLT really was very good and the grits were well cooked...YOU know errybody can't cook grits!!! The coffee is good and stayed HOT through the meal. My sandwich was huge, but I ATE THE WHOLE THING... and my grits and then couldn't breathe!!! 😄
My Honey's French Toast was the best he's ever eaten. The tenders were fabulous. The scrambled eggs did not require the usual addition of ketchup & hot sauce. I know how to cook eggs, but even mine get the red & red treatment...I'm talkin' 'bout a lot of years!
The Customer Service (ALWAYS E-X-T-R-E-M-E-L-Y important to me) is as wonderful as the food! This was my Valentine's Day Breakfast Treat; I believe I could eat this food several times a week and not get bored.
They're debuting a food truck soon. 👍🏾 I was told the menu is under revision and new offerings are on the horizon...
IDK what they are, but I'm going back...
Read moreTwenty minutes later and I finally got my breakfast sandwich. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what I ordered. I ended up paying $9 for the rich rising, I’m assuming the extra $3 from the menu price was for the biscuit swap, although no one mentioned it. They also charged me to add cheese, even though the description clearly states “scrambled egg with cheese,” and when I finally got my food, they had made it on some kind of sweet fruity pebbles biscuit! Who does that? I can’t imagine making a change like that without asking someone if it’s what they want, and I definitely did not. Additionally, the cheddar cheese they charged me for was missing and my sandwich had American cheese instead. This all might have been less bothersome if the girl at the register (Shani, based on my receipt) had not also been incredibly unfriendly and rude. Multiple people who ordered after me got their food before me, one of which happened after my food was placed next to her and clearly ready. Did not pass the vibe check, will not return to be...
