7/8/2024 6:05pm: I called to place an order 6:05pm they answered the phone, I guess they thought they hung it up and I am still on the phone. Just FYI they take the phone off the hook so you can't call in to place an order...This is not only rude but I you are driving how can you place an order online...Real jerk thing to do to customer. I can hear staff having a conversation. But I got one better I am gonna stay on the phone and pick up my food and show them my phone so they can see I am still on the line and can hear them. called to place an order 6:05pm they answered the phone, I guess they thought they hung it up and I am still on the phone. Update on My Recent Order and In-Store Experience: While still on the phone, I went to pick up my order in person. Upon arrival, I approached the staff behind the counter and asked, “Is this how you treat your customers?” I showed them my phone and said, “If you pick up the phone, you’ll hear me.” One staff member showed my phone to another gentleman; although they apologized, one wore a smirk, prompting me to respond, “This isn’t funny.”
As a Muslim—and knowing that many Muslims in the city support this business—I felt compelled to voice my concerns. This was not the first time I had encountered such issues; previously, I have found the phone taken off the hook when trying to place an order.
During pickup, I checked my order and noticed Pepsi Zero. The only option available was Pepsi Zero. When I placed my order online, there was no indication that regular Pepsi was unavailable. When I inquired, the staff informed me they were out of regular Pepsi. I then asked about fountain soda, but was told none was available. The refrigerator was nearly empty, containing only Lassi, some water, and yogurt-based drinks. Disappointed, I left the soda I had intended to add to my meal, as there were no suitable alternatives and no refund was offered.
Let me be clear The food at Maiwand Grill is very good. I don’t see myself stopping my orders anytime soon, as other kabab restaurants just don’t measure up in terms of flavor or the quality of the meat. It’s truly difficult to find a kabab place that stands out, but Maiwand surpasses the rest.
That said, it’s disappointing to experience poor treatment from the staff. I understand that the neighborhood faces its own challenges (homeless people trying to panhandle outside or trying to inside but they get kicked out, then the neighborhood thugs that police don't manage), but it’s still disheartening to be treated this way as a customer. Excellent food deserves equally excellent service, and I hope to see improvement...

Overview: I was denied an item (drink ) even though the store advertised a drink would be included, as the interaction was not getting better and I was getting uncomfortable with the cashiers response I took what I had and left.
in full transparency I ordered off a delivery app, and while I’m sure calling the manager it would have been solved this- I did not want to argue, so I counted the loss with hope that if someone is without and thirsty they’d give them the drink I paid for but was denied.
I typically get the gyro meal when ordering from the app, today a platter. When I arrived I spoke with a man behind the counter in hope to get me food made later (possibly the manager - not sure), he showed me my ready to go order, and I informed I would actually need to pick my food up a little later (without need to have them remake it). He agreed, I left and returned, but the man that was initially behind the counter was not there.
I informed him of my order, and as he was looking in the recent packaged orders - I let him know that my order was behind him, referencing the bag that I was told was mine. He said it wasn’t mine and that it belong to a different person - much to my surprise. There were people behind me waiting, so I proved myself again in spite of the name being on the bag. When he saw the spelling of my name he handed me my food. Believe it or not of this was not an issue in my opinion - awkward, at best, but my problem soon followed.
The issue arose when I get my to-bag and there’s a drink missing. Every food delivery account holder knows how dreaded that is. I waited patiently to let him know I was missing a drink and, again, he says I’m wrong. I informed him I ordered two meal with trip drink per my promo and he informed me that the promo was one drink two meals (that’s not a meal) so showed him my phone again and he just pointed to a man behind me and said I only gave him one drink because it comes with one drink.
I was over it at that point. I was doing my due diligence to not make a scene. So I think that it was unprofessional for him to include other people in a very hushed conversation. Given how the store advertises what one single meal looks like they should honor that and ensure all their...
Read moreMaiwand Grill in Baltimore is an absolute gem for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Afghan cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the warm, inviting aroma of spices that sets the tone for a memorable dining experience. We ordered the lamb and chicken combo along with a yogurt drink, and every part of the meal exceeded our expectations.
The lamb and chicken combo was perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with flavor. The lamb was juicy with a subtle smokiness from the grill, while the chicken was equally well-seasoned, with a nice char that enhanced its flavors. Both meats were so tender that they practically melted in your mouth, and the spices used were aromatic without being overpowering, allowing the quality of the meat to shine through.
The combo also came with fluffy basmati rice, which was light, fragrant, and complemented the rich flavors of the meats beautifully. It’s clear that a lot of thought and care went into the preparation, with each component balancing the other. The sides, including fresh naan bread, added a delightful texture and were perfect for scooping up every last bit of the sauces and juices.
The yogurt drink was another highlight. Creamy and refreshing, it had just the right amount of tang and was a great way to balance the spices of the main course. It added a traditional touch to the meal, transporting us even further into the flavors of Afghan cuisine.
The ambiance of Maiwand Grill is cozy and authentic, making it feel like a hidden treasure in Baltimore. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food arrived promptly. For anyone looking to explore Afghan cuisine or simply enjoy a well-prepared, flavorful meal, Maiwand Grill is an excellent choice. We’ll...
