It was late in the season, and you could taste it. The whole meal felt like the restaurant was coasting on fumes — a place running out the clock until the last tourist packs up and heads home.
The beer wasn’t cold — the cardinal sin for any coastal joint. The lobster stew was worse: thin, milky, and sad. More like lobster-flavored dishwater with a splash of sherry than anything resembling comfort food.
The “house special” fish and chips arrived looking the part, golden and promising, until the first bite revealed the truth — old, rubbery fish with chewy edges. Everything fish and chips shouldn’t be.
I asked if they could cut up the hot dog for the kid’s mac and cheese — not exactly a high-wire culinary request — but it came out whole. If you’re going to charge an extra buck for it, at least pretend you care.
My wife’s lobster? Decent. Not great, not bad — just decent. The kind of dish that makes you wonder if the cook had one foot out the door.
The fries were the night’s lone redemption — hot, crisp, and seasoned just right — until the ketchup betrayed them. Watery juice from the squeeze bottle, the universal sign of neglected sidework and end-of-season fatigue.
At one point, I caught a line cook eating off the line in plain sight. I get it — long shift, hungry, you steal a bite. We’ve all done it. But at least duck behind the line, chew, swallow, and come back human. Watching someone munch through the closing shift is never appetizing.
I wasn’t looking for a Michelin star meal, just a solid family dinner with fresh-ish ingredients and a bit of care. Maybe it was an off night, maybe the delivery truck was late, maybe everyone had already mentally checked out for the season. Either...
Read morei was super excited when i heard that Geddy’s was the most “allergy-friendly restaurant in bar harbor” and that they made a gluten free version of the lobster roll. they had a 5 star rating on findmeglutenfree so i was very confident in ordering and just made sure to tell the person who took my order it was an allergy. there was no commentary on shared fryers or anything so i assumed it was safe. i got my food and it was alright, though i dont know that that was the restaurants fault. i’d never had a lobster roll before so they just might not be for me. i left and soon after felt nauseous and bloated and ended up having to throw up at a near by grocery store. i would NOT say this restaurant is celiac friendly at all, contrary to reviews. i’m not even insanely sensitive to it (like i wont react to corn and can generally trust drinking after someone after about 20 minutes of them having had gluten and then water). it was so unfortunate and felt like a complete waste of money as i didn’t keep anything down :(
Updating after their response to clear up a few things. i have had lobster. just not lobster rolls and they use the same buns as a lot of restaurants in new york i frequent regularly. i did have a reaction to gluten somewhere in my meal. very unfortunate to see that they are incapable of taking criticism. i’ve had celiac for years and know how my body reacts to ingredients such as xantham gum that frequently are added to gluten free food. this restaurant is just not above making a mistake, no matter how they try and this has further emphasized to me that this restaurant does not care for the celiac community. admit your mistakes...
Read moreHIGHLY RECOMMEND! Seriously this is another incredible spot for any food while In bar harbor.
First-The location is right near the water with beautiful sights to see while you wait for a table. The location was really cool. More of a “pub” style to it but It has an amazing atmosphere. We got seated right away (table of 4) and we had plenty of space for us at our table. There’s room for smaller and larger parties and a cool bar to hang out at.
Second-The food was phenomenal. We are visiting and obviously lobster rolls are what we came for and this place had maybe the best one we had. We started off with the garlic mussels which were amazing. Really really good sauce. Not a huge order, more of a personal app. Our meals was 2 of us got the bacon jalapeño lobster roll which was AMAZING. It is a cold sandwich, they don’t serve them hot but you can get hot melted butter. There was a good amount of lobster meat and the roll was toasted perfectly. I like spice but I didn’t really taste any spice but the flavor with the bacon is amazing. One of us got the seafood pie which he loved. Cast iron dish and it was a pretty good size dish. My other friend got the lobster stew (big Bowl) and than got the fish and chips (haddock) and it looked really good. I love fish and chips and that looked probably the best I’ve seen. For the dessert we had to try their blueberry pie. Here’s my thing. Still a 10/10. But the blueberry pie at side street was better only by the crust. That’s the only thing that for me was better. But I still recommend getting it for dessert. You won’t regret it. Overall I definitely hope you enjoy this place! Definitely one of...
