We're New Englanders, who relocated to the South decades ago. ( Kinder winter's & at the time, real estate prices were reasonable.) I resided in Hyannis twice in the late 70's early 80's as well. Born in NYC, grew up in New England, but I returned often over the years. Now IMHO, New Yorkers know good, Italian food, Pizza & good Cannoli. After a few days of fried clams, lobster, scallops, we were looking Tuesday evening for something a little different, like pizza. Palio's was right up Main St, a few blocks from the hotel. They have some pleasant seating, outside on the sidewalk if you wish. Inside, not swanky but very clean & as for the aroma, like a good pizza restaurant should. ;)) Seat yourself. Both table & booth. I believe they can serve beer & wine, but we opted for water. You can order the whole pie or BIG slices, reasonable. Cheese, sausage, pepperoni or "slices of the day" listed on the blackboard, at the counter, where you order. They give you a number you carry to your table, so they can deliver to you. My husband ordered the sausage; while I ordered the pepperoni slice. They run $3.95 a slice. I also ordered the garden salad. Salads come in a variety of choices, like Greek, a cape cod salad, garden etc & they all run $11; but worth it as it is large & VERY fresh. Comes with an Italian dressing that didn't taste like bottled. That arrived first. Crisp greens, fresh red onion slices, green pepper slices, fresh wedges of tomato etc. Ate it all. Then our pizza slices arrived. Very hot, the right amount of melted cheese, ( not oily or greasy) flavorful sauce; mine loaded with a generous amount of pepperoni, his..sausage. Did I say a VERY generous slice, & foldable, like I remember great pizza in NYC. AND THE flavor. OMG! IN OUR opinion, perfect! THE slice each, was just filling enough for us to split a Cannoli.
There are numerous, appealing dessert choices. A variety of italian cake & and a few Cannoli choices ( one with ends dipped in chocolate, one simply sprinkled in chips,) but an abbreviated description like " to die for" would be appropriate. If they didn't make it fresh there, I'd be surprised. But my husband who's not a big fan of all things cheese or ricotta fillings, thoroughly loved it. And I think we are going back for one more round before we leave, end of week. It will be a long time before we get a pizza fix like Palio's again. And they also have a wide range of pasta choices as well, which we were too full to attempt. You can leave tips at the counter in a jar. They are working hard there to make their customers food great! Make their day too with a little something extra to thank them for a great meal! Perfection in food is indeed...
Read moreI ordered a pepperoni pizza from here because I saw the great reviews, but not sure what happened. The worst pizza I have ever seen or ate. It was 7/17 at about 9pm and I have to believe this pizza was old meaning maybe ordered hours ago, but never picked up or made for slices to be sold and never was so they heated it up and stuck me with it. I get this thought because from the moment I ordered this pizza it was delivered in 10 minutes. How can a fresh hand made pizza get ordered, stretched, assembled, baked and delivered in 10 minutes? Answer is ~ it can’t. Shocked by this old and dried to the touch thing in the box. Pretty disgusting and I am still confused of how with so many great reviews I got this thing. Regardless of why or how this pizza is the worst pizza I have ever come across and it cost $30 bucks for a simple pepperoni pizza which is priced quite high for a regular large pepperoni pizza and then I gave a tip on top of it to a delivery person who should have know better than to deliver this food knowing it was so bad. So almost $40 bucks for the worst pizza I have ever experienced .. maybe it was a...
Read moreThis place not only has the BEST pizza, it is a GODSEND for my daughter who has Celiac and absolutely can not eat gluten! The only place besides Kleet and Anchor to offer gluten free food with TOTALLY SEPARATE PREP AREAS! My daughter is extremely sensitive and she had absolutely no problems of stomach pain etc which means absolutely no cross contamination. Then you Palio! We had a regular with carmelized onions, mushrooms and roasted red peppers. What an incredible combination. My daughter got gluten free crust with onions, green peppers and mushrooms and ate every bite of 2 pizzas (in 1 1/2 days). No symptoms! Food is awesome!!
One negative but not about quality, ordering by phone was difficult, the place is very loud and the woman had a super thick accent. Did not know about gluten-free. Switched to someone in charge...
