7 year wedding anniversary and was more than underwhelmed.
To start I was very polite to the waitress at every opportunity thanking her.
I ordered a beer and water. Toward the end of the meal I noticed a smell in my water. I looked in the glass and it looked like seasoning at the bottom of my glass (my wife’s as well). I was told this was normal (keep reading).
My wife was excited to get a dessert like a picture we saw on Google Reviews (this is the reason we chose this restaurant). A married couple with a dessert plate that had “Happy Anniversary” written in chocolate sauce (so nice). The restaurant asked if we were celebrating anything when I made the reservation. I told them yes my 7th year anniversary. I ,very naively, thought they might bring us the dessert from the photo. I did not expect a free dessert, even though, that is kind of the normal at a $20 a plate restaurant. Either way, I was not even given a chance to order dessert. Our waitress said happy anniversary when we sat down, and at the end of our meal the waitress brought the check and said have a nice night. I did not know what to say… I felt awkward just thinking about asking to order dessert, let alone asking for a dessert with, “Happy Anniversary” written on it….
After paying and signing the receipt I asked politely if they filter their water because my water was dirty and the waitress said no. I was thirsty and wanted some water before leaving and asked if I get another glass of water would it be dirty too. She said yes it is Baton Rouge tap water and I could have ordered bottled or sparkling water..
The atmosphere at the restaurant was nice, but to be talked down to about the water is just condescending and wrong. I assumed a high end restaurant would filter their water.. Forgive me being so stupid to not have ordered sparkling water (gross), but this restaurant cooks all their food with the same water..
Appetizers were A+, beef Wellington bites and pork belly. Bisque was great, as well as the crab rice. I ordered the porterhouse (NY strip side was tough) and it was perfectly cooked medium rare, yet it was also kind of dry. I do not know how that is possible but it was. There was no juice when cutting the steak. The baked potato was also either over cooked or sat under a lamp for hours, because it was also dry and the skin you had to cut with a knife. Literally a knife, I could not cut the skin with a fork
Honestly I don’t understand the experience at a restaurant with their prices. I spent $250 for 2 people and could get a better steak and potato from a restaurant at 1/3 of the price, oh and clean water….
My wife really wanted a desert with “Happy Anniversary” written on it for a picture to remember the night of our wedding anniversary.
Why ask if we are celebrating anything when we made our reservation, if you are not going to do anything?? What is the point?? And why do you not filter your kitchen's water if it...
Read moreWell I’ve heard about this restaurant by a few others and they stated they haven’t been in years. I was looking forward to bringing a few State Representatives here for a dinner; however once my colleague mentioned their experience, there was no way I’d ever visit! There was a dinner party that started at 7:00. The guests didn’t get their food until 10:30 pm. In the midst of waiting the server had made snide remarks and when advised of poor service & requested the manager she stated “management stated this ….” But would never bring them to the table. She asked the person who was being celebrated if they would like desert & they replied “no thanks we are just ready for our food” the server said it’s on the house & the guest said ok I guess I will check the menu out. The server responded “I thought that would change your mind once I mentioned it was free” we were of-course offended but astonished on how the server would think this was acceptable. The manager was requested once she insinuated the guests didn’t want to tip only because they questioned why the tickets automatically included gratuity for a party of 7 when the host stated gratuity is only automatically for parties of 8 or more. The sever didn’t want to get the Manager and once she did get the manager; the manager was a little worried due to the tension. Everyone was calm but offended. We were still going to tip but the server continued with her comments telling one of the guest to hush repeatedly & telling us the managers shouldn’t of taken food off of one of the guests tickets only because the chef didn’t make the steak right. They could’ve of placed it back on the grill for the 4th time. We said the manager has already ruled & why are you carrying on. The lady was overwhelmed and tired due to working doubles but that was not our fault. We will never be returning to this restaurant again! I’ve been to high end restaurants and paid less and received superb service. You think I’m gonna pay $200+ for mistreatment and arrogance -...
Read moreLast night was an embarrassing night for Sullivan's. Its not a place I typically patron, considering it's a place i thought reserved for more "special occasions". All that changed last night... it was BAD! We had dinner reservations for 7 people at 6:15pm. After small talk and cocktails, we placed our order around 7pm. Around 8:45, our main course arrived. I could tell by the color of the steak that it was extremely overcooked. I'm not a stickler for internal temps - as long as it's not bleeding, I'm satisfied. I ordered medium +. This steak arrived extremely well done. Of all the 7 steaks, only 1 was cooked correctly... however, the toppings on it were wrong. The server and manager agreed, these steaks were WAY overcooked. They did offer to prepare another steak, but after almost 2 hours of waiting, we were not waiting again. The manager offered to remove the cocktails from everyone's bill. I had one cocktail, so it took $13 off my bill. I ordered the restaurant week special, so I didn’t feel comfortable really pushing the issue. And truly, it shouldn't matter what i ordered. For the restaurant week special, the steak is extremely small and thin (probably why they were all overcooked - they cut the full size filet 1/4s) and give you a small scoop of potatoes. Thankfully, desert was delicious. I feel by participating in restaurant week and offering this special (and doing it so badly), you're ruining your reputation. There was another table next to us which had issues also, resulting in their entire bill being comped (they walked over to our table after overhearing our complaints and shared briefly they were having a terrible experience also). I wouldn't expect them to comp our entire meal, given our party size. But it's unfortunate that my bill was still $85 for what i received and the lack of quality. For steak during restaurant week - stick with Doe's. Such a...
