Dave and Charlie's — Restaurant in Bayonne

I stopped in on a Tuesday evening to buy a sandwich. The place was extremely clean and they had a menu that you could easily read. The prices are cleary displayed. You can buy a 7 inch or a 14 inch. I was a little nervous because it was my first time there. The first nice girl( lady) basically explained it to me. I ordered the large Ham and swiss ( they use Thumanns meats/cheeses). On the next station you tell the next girl (lady) what you want on it. I chose let, tom, mayo. I asked if I could have it cut 4 ways. Then it was wrapped up by a very nice man. I was happy that everyone working there were extremely nice. It's hard to find good service nowadays. I left a tip and I felt they deserved every dollar. They worked together and there was no weak link playing with their telephone. I dispise it when people don't wait for their breaks to fool around. I understand this business. I have worked in it for a large portion of my life. I did it while going through school. I did it as a second job to save for vacation and for the future. I feel this establishment is doing a wonderful job! They aren't" begging" for tips that they do not deserve. If you go to pick up a slice of pizza or a cup of coffee, you shouldn't expect more than a dollar. I hate that screen when you pay with a credit card and the " tip" percentage comes up. 15-18-20 percent of your total order. Of a 5$ purchase that was put into a bag? I can do my own math. I only use cash. D&C's sandwich shop do all of the work. They get 10 stars from me. I was thanked for coming. I will definitely be back. One more thing. Came here yesterday after work. Been coming here for years. The sandwiches used to be great but now the service seems to have declined. The older lady that works here has a serious attitude problem. I asked for a full size Italian parm bread sub with tuna. She walked quite a bit a bit away from the preparation area to her right and came back with the bread. No idea where she brought it from. I was afraid they might use some old bread that a dumpster would have eaten. She never asked me If I wanted cheese on it. Then she passed it on to the next lady- Gina who looks depressed. I came home with the sandwich and with the first bite it was obvious that the bread was not fresh. It didn't have the texture, softness etc of fresh bread.

Also, last month I had placed a phone order with them. The older irate lady answered the phone and she seemed hung up on my Muslim name. She also didn't hear well and made me repeat everything twice. Then she took some time asking someone else about the price of things and finally got back to the phone.

I requested a half turkey and half tuna sub. The delivery guy dropped it off and Lo! What was inside? Half tuna and the other half was a ham sandwich. Even though the attached order receipt correctly listed the half tuna and half turkey! I know she did this on purpose thinking that this guy doesn't eat pork/ ham.

I brought it back in person the next day and her face didn't show any real genuine looking apologetic expression. Saying sorry doesn't mean anything when your face is saying the opposite. Not coming back. Too many...

As a Bayonne native, I was nervous when I heard changes would be made to (formerly Blimpie), but this place is as good as ever! If not better. I love that when you walk in the smells of the fresh ingredients really just pulls you up to the counter to make your order. Their sandwiches are delicious! The wraps are yummy! Scrumptious salads! The veggie patties are great! I don’t think I’ve ever tried something that I didn’t like there. I love to get a fountain soda to wash it all down! The snacks they offer are also good, so many different options. Freshly baked cookies? Yes, please! Their macaroni salad and potato salad are a wonderful option for side dishes with your meal. Whether you want a hot or cold sandwich, they’ve got what you’re looking for. I highly recommend giving their establishment a try! I’ve also got to give the highest compliments to them for their catering options. I’ve purchased a GIANT sub from them for a viewing party at home, as well as sandwich trays for a party in a hall.
