A friend invited me because it's across the street from the Beaverton transit mall where trimet has busses drop off passengers to get on the MAX for a ride either to Hillsborough or Portland and PDX etc. She was catching a bus that would take her home.
I was very glad she did. I had forgotten that the cart even existed. I knew the transit mall well... having taken it to numerous jobs and volunteer locations for decades....all prepandemic. I haven't ridden public transportation since covid.
Regardless...on a cold day sitting at the cart's picnic table with relatively nice plastic/metal chairs lasted until we both had finished the sloppy parts of our meals. Then we quickly moved back to my Tesla... with wonderful heat, music and a view of the busses coming and going as well as the trains. Oops. Sorry I lived on the upper West Side of Manhattan too long. Here they're not trains but MAX, etc. Seldom trains.
So, beyond the food, the location, table etc were perfect for us! We shared one dish, me taking less than she had and I still was almost too full.
She ordered, knowing the language, owner, culture and cuisine.
Truth be told, I'm not fond of Mexican food, never have been. Rather than share the past, know that I thoroughly enjoyed our quesadilla...in fact, I'll see it was great.
The location was perfect for us on this occasion, the ambiance... well, outside in very cold, windy weather speaks for itself.
I watched the interaction she had with the owner. It can be best expressed by words like: respect, affection (in an entirely no sexual way) and perhaps even enjoyment.
So , what else do I say? The cart was an attractive bright yellow color. The food, the perfect temperature. The use of 2 different types of paper plates...perfect... and 2 forks of course. Service was quick. In fact, I don't fault the owner in any way...in fact praise him and hope he knows how happy he makes people. (I observed him talking with one other customer.)
I NEVER thought I'd be going to a food cart today let alone a Mexican one that I loved.
Kudos to all and I'll do my best to add the name of the cart later.. perhaps the owner too.
Go to this lovely little cart across Lombard street for a great experience. True... it's not in the same class as places I've reviewed like The Chart House, Oswego Grill etc. It's not meant to.
In it's class, I think it's at the head.
I just changed my rating because I knew it must be compared to other places in it's class. I know this won't satisfy everyone but I'm doing my best to at the very least be clear, honest, and all the good things.
Until the next time foodies, this is Bill,...
Read moreI'm impressed! Got a very large steak burrito and 2 chicken tacos for $9 here. They were very satisfying. This food cart also looks super clean on the inside. While it's not my favorite mexican food on the planet, it is a lot cheaper than my favorite mexican food on the planet, and for this reason... 5 stars! They do spicy very well here. If you allow the attendant to put salsa on your items; your lips will be burning. I also really enjoy the radishes they put in the chicken tacos. So fresh tasting.
I later came back and tried a steak torta. It was only the second torta I've ever had, but it was definitely the best, and HUGE!
Minor Gripes:
I have trouble communicating with the pretty, younger attendant. I think she thought I was trying to steal food the other night because I had a hard time understanding what she was saying when she was asking for payment.
This is not fast food. Expect to wait 10 to 15 minutes, even if there is no one else in line...
Read moreI was honestly so disappointed. I ordered 6 pastor tacos which is what I get from every taco truck I go to. This location has been good before like years ago but I have had two bad experiences in a row I think they changed trucks or people who own it or something. The pastor seemed like it was dried out from the day prior maybe more. I'm not saying that's what it was but it was the DRYEST meat in a street taco I have ever had and it was hard on the outside and it was in teeny tiny little chunks that didn't look appealing at all. It also had no pineapple. These were also hands down the SMALLEST tacos ever. I should have known and checked on it before I took it home because it came in a noticeably smaller box than the truck by my house uses for the same order. But for real, I'm not going back. I should not have...
