Bellevue, Seattle 🍟 Budget Eats for Troops: Stuffed for Just $20

I noticed that a lot of people seemed to like the burgers at this place Walking in, it was a pretty small place, but it did have that old-school quality to it. I got a double cheeseburger, which was initially going to be the only thing I got, but I saw that a lot of people recommended the onion rings, so I got that as well This ended up being a pretty solid burger. I thought the patties were on the well-done side, which was slightly disappointing, but the flavor really came through in there. Since each patty is 1/4 pound, the resulting double patty means you get an absolute ton of beef flavor in every bite - in fact - it’s basically the only thing you taste. If they screwed up the patties it would’ve been disastrous, but thankfully they did not Clear grill marks were present on the patties to indicate a high level of grilling quality The burger also came with two slices of cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes (which I removed). I think the two slices is a little bit too cheesy for me - especially with the relatively strong flavor of American cheese. I don’t know of the lettuce added too much here as well While I thought the burger was good, the issue I had with it was the plainness/lack of additional flavor. It was pretty much just only beef the entire way through, which made the taste profile somewhat one note after getting about 2/3 of the way in. While this might be some people’s preference - I found myself looking for the extra kick that any kind of sauce would provide. The best burgers I’ve had have all had some kind of sauce on the buns that add levels to the flavor. I think this burger is similar to a Five Guys burger, but the fact that Five Guys gives you mayo does elevate that burger over this one in my opinion The onion rings were fantastic. They were on the slightly softer side than being purely breaded & crunchy, but I liked this because it meant you were able to appreciate the smoothness and texture of the onion more. The whole thing was oily, and the breading was just about perfect. Some of the best onion rings I’ve ever had, and I definitely don’t regret my decision to get these Another thing I loved was the sauce station present, where you could fill up a cup with some sort of spicy mayo, buffalo sauce, and a few other kinds. Dipping the onion rings in the spicy mayo sauce was amazing, and huge points for having this station allowing you to get as much sauce as you want For the price, this location is incredible. A double cheeseburger, which costs over $10 pretty much everywhere in this area, only costs about $8-9 here. While the onion rings are probably more on the expensive side, I think the amount of food you get for a total of about $15 is very solid. Overall, a really solid and fundamental burger with an excellent side. 8.5/10

I’m not entirely sure how Broiler Bay manages to get an average of 4.5 stars (as of today 9/18/18). I have tried so many times over the last 10 years of coming to this place (off and on) to be open-minded and see if I just didn’t have a stellar experience THAT time (or at least a stellar burger), but time and again, it’s underwhelming (at best). Five Guys and local favorite Pick-Quick (SoDo, Fife, etc) are 5-star places. Broiler Bay is just not at the same level. In any way. The meat quality may be good to some people, but I find it to be a lesser grade/more chewy (ick) than almost anywhere I’ve ever been. The service is usually good/sometimes even friendly, and they always cook it the way I asked for it to be done, but between the not-that-great beef, the chewy/fatty bacon, and the overall appearance/cleanliness of the entire place (extremely dated and no effort to keep things clean) including the lobby and the straight-up nasty bathrooms, I just can’t give them any more than a 3.5-star. When the inevitable development on this block goes in, maybe they will relocate and get new digs. If they did that, AND got some better quality beef/a better patty recipe (crumbly delish like Five Guys or at least just less CHEWY and weird!), and figured out their bacon game like the rest of the world, I would give them another shot, but I’m done giving them shots at their current location.

In 2006 I was a homeless 8th grader in Bellevue. I didn't eat much except for the school lunches and breakfast from Chinook middle school. Most of the rich kids gave me their food that they didn't want to eat. I use to come by Broiler Bay with my 2 brothers and little sister to eat here after school. The owner and staff here have always been friendly to us and greet us with a warm smile. The restrooms are very clean. Ask about trying their Dill Pickle sauce with their fries or onion rings, very delicious combination! They also sell milk shakes and other items. It's good to see 15 years later in 2021 after I moved back to Seattle from Georgia that the service and quality of the food hasn't changed. Still the same great taste! It was very good to see the owner again after all these years too. He remembered me and my siblings. I love Broiler Bay and believe this restaurant has the best burgers in Bellevue. Food comes out pretty quick. My favorite meal to get is the Swiss Mushroom Burger with Onion rings and dill pickle sauce... Their avocado burger is the bomb too, be sure to try it out!

To the owner: I hope your restaurant will always continue to do well. My brothers and sister thank you very much for your acts of kindness back in 2006. Many other businesses would kick us out or be very rude to us because were homeless children. I'm glad you showed us humanity and I don't know if you realized you helped us understand that there are good people in the world... My big brother Seth has a daughter and lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his lady. My little brother Caleb is married with 3 kids and is a Marine Corps Drill Instructor in Paris Island, South Carolina. Hannah our little sister is also a Marine now. And as for me, I just decided to move back to Washington when I grew up so here I am! Doing well now. Driving a brand new car and living happy in the Seattle area. Thank you so much for everything! Every time I'm in Bellevue I always stop by to get a bite to eat here as my appreciation for all the times you helped us as kids. See ya around, and one day I will bring my brothers here to visit again. They said they miss the food here lol....

that was my experience anyone is welcome to try their experience, they do serve good burgers not gonna lie, but to me the way you conduct yourself comes first and the place was awesome until i made a small comment about putting my burger patty right away when i order it on the phone because i did it once and they never put the patty to cook until i was there in the place, the guy check marked ✔️ my order and then the chef grabbed a patty and started cooking it and preparing it and i called almost 8 minutes ahead. I wasn't asking for my burger to be done i was asking to be put and prepared when i make the order on the phone and not when I enter the place. They took it so personally and started being negative to me in their tone and looks

After i gave that comment on my next order on another day, of course just like any other place they take it as something negative and the guy started to acting up and telling me that's not how the world works. Teaching me a lesson about life is not needed and speaking on behalf the world is also kinda not how it works. So they took it as i was dissing the place and that attitude or that personality stinks to me and it's toxic. Just giving my opinion and my experience about the place again, good burgers go try yourself but for me probably that was the last day coming to this place. Anyone who thinks negative right away about something said on their business and not take it as a lesson then in my opinion that is toxic and they refuse to learn anything. Positive personality and that's number one when you have your own business. Teaching me about life and saying we are not fast food so childish. I'm there because it's not fast food i literally never ever eat outside except if it's a good place (in my opinion) Judging their clients eating everyday outside. Saying that's not how the world works was the joke itself, literally. The whole topic wasn't even close to how the world works..but let's blame it on this mad world why not. Assuming that your clients are saying negative things only tells me how negative they are actually, thank you for that better now than later. Not worth supporting at all...
