First off they were courteous, clean, and covid conscious. We went just before lunch time, but even then I think we would have felt like we had plenty of space. The experience as a whole felt fun but sleek.
If you get nothing else get the Xiao Long Bao / chicken soup dumplings! My God, they’re amazing. This was my first experience with these and I get it now. Wow. They made me want to order a bamboo steam basket and make recreating them my new hobby. The dough was so tender it gave way to our chopsticks with little effort and flooded our spoons with brothy goodness. Excellent flavor that was neither too rich or modest. I wish we got a double order.
I will order gyoza or potstickers almost whenever I see them on the menu somewhere. So fried wonton dumpling was the dish I was most experienced with. The pork and scallion felt familiar and wonderful and just a little more substantial compared to how delicate the soup dumplings were. They also had ever so crispy bottoms, which might be why I love them so much. That light crunch with the comforting warm pillow of savory goodness. It secures them as one of my favorite foods in general.
Before you think I was just starry eyed for any food and it couldn’t have all been that good - it wasn’t. I expected a crunchier punch of veggies from the scallion pancake, but instead it was mostly just wafery and crispy and not a lot else. To me, it tasted more like flour than anything else but my husband liked it. In all transparency, I based my expectations off of unassociated instagram posts so that’s not too fair. Still didn’t love it when dropping that comparison. Dan-Dan noodles were intensely flavorful - almost too much so for me. There was a lot of strong peanut, vinegar, and salty umami fighting it out for supremacy. It seemed that the saltiness won out. Again, my husband took over that dish.
We finished by splitting a red bean bao bun which had the perfect amount of bounce and...
Read moreArrived Bellevue from Vancouver at around 930pm, walked into Dough Zone after hearing recommendations from friends and family. Understood that they closing soon hence take out only.
We created our order on the machine and had been having trouble paying with our cards. No one provided help, until much later. Finally, Willy came and was surprised that card reader wasnt working as it was working the whole day. He then took our cards decided to slap it onto the card reader multiple times. However, it didn't work, Willy just decided to walk away to do something else. And then , finally after around 5 minutes he took our order on their system. His attitude and approach were definitely impolite, or even rude. To be fair, if the machine wasn't working first place. Why can you proceed the order on your system immediately?
We were told it would take 20 mins or so for our order. So we took a breather and walked back. Saw one order on the shelf, and when looked closer it was our order. And the order was sitting on the shelf, for at least 10 minutes. I was waiting and no one asked why we waiting or double check if that's our order. It appeared to us that all server just decided to avoid eye contact so they don't have to help.
We ordered: Green Onion Pancake, Pork Xiao Long Bao, Fried Chive Dumplings, Vegetable pot Stickers, Braised Pig Ear and Pan fried Ground Beef Cakes. Horrible green onion pancake, no flavor, no crispy, too doughy (no wonder why called Dough Zone). Pork Xiao Long Bao nicely flavoured, but the skin was too thick not juicy enough. Fried Chive Dumplings looked like they werent even pan fried, they look awfully pale. Vegetable pot sticker is a nice kick, crispy enough, and nicely seasoned. Last but not least Pan Fried Ground Beef Cakes, flavourful would...
Read moreI have been here many times. The food is consistently good at the same time the service is consistently poor. I was there yesterday and my wife and ordered some food but they were out of one of the choices we made so we told our waiter that we will most likely order some more after we finish the rest of our list. We waited and waited. We had to ask someone else for an order sheet since our waiter took our as well as the pen. Then after we got the paper and pen to make another order no one ever came back so we decided to pay and leave. I did express how unhappy we were with the service and how we actually wanted a bit more food since our original order was changed due to it being out of stock. He never once came back and checked on us. Very bad service. I would give this restaurant a one star for service (even combining all the service we have had since they opened till now) and a 4 for food. I gave it a three star overall because the food is good and comes quickly. At this point we will most likely go back but much more service like that and we wont. There are other options around us but it is very convenient to walk to for us.
I want to say that once I expressed my unhappiness with the service they gave us a discount of $3 something off. I did not ask nor did I want that. I would have preferred a heart felt apology. I do not get to have lunch with my wife regularly and I found the service actually distracted from that since she was unhappy with it as well. I still do not want anything for the problems that have been consistently there since they opened except to fix it. I would love to continue to eat there. I would also change this rating if...
