Our first visit to Ginza was enjoyable — we ordered sushi platters and found both the freshness and presentation to be good. The second visit was somewhat disappointing, as the raw fish wasn’t at its peak for example, and the miso cod was overcooked. Still, it wasn’t so bad that we would cross the restaurant off our list or anything, which brings us to our third visit…
We happened to be in the area today and thought to drop by for a quick lunch — in an effort to avoid raw ingredients this time around, I ordered a Nabeyaki Udon (perfect rainy day food, right?) Unfortunately, the chicken that came in it did not taste fresh (not outright spoiled but definitely as if it was heading in that direction), the egg was overcooked to the point of the white being slightly rubbery at the edges (really not how it’s supposed to be in this particular dish at all, but maybe it’s my bad for expecting some semblance of authenticity in the first place now that I think of it), and saddest of all, the tempura shrimp was not deveined (imagine eating the shrimp meat off its tail only to discover the ENTIRE digestive tract still intact and attached to that tail as you pull it out…I’ll spare you an actual picture). Not sure about y’all but we’ve come to expect deveined shrimps as part of standard practice in professional food service settings and this was very off-putting. Having said all that, we were tired and hungry and just wanted to get the meal over with, so I ate the noodles (the only adequate component of the dish) and drank most of the soup anyway (even though it tasted rather like diluted instant soup packet). When the waitress came to gather our dishes at check time we gently pointed out the chicken and shrimp issue (they were gathered in a separate bowl) and she did offer an obligatory apology and say that she will tell the kitchen, and that was that.
We will stick to Izumi...
Read moreI am eating dinner right now but won't be back. Worst service and quality of food. Very shocked.
On next afternoon I think I need to tell details for good customers who might be treated and cheated like me.
We were two and waitress asked to sit the table in front of toilet even three tables are vacant. Asked to change and STRICTLY say "NO" just like Japanese people usually talk to their young people. I am 50... They said tables are RESERVED but no one came until we leave.
Food were NOT served on same time. My wife's food served first and my Deluxe sushi is served almost 20 minutes later. Excellent!!
Waitress just took my napkins without asking.....
They served hot tea but just served one cup. And even didn't know what they did.
Until that moment, I thought INEXPERIENCED servers, many of them I have seen many times as I am a nice customer for past 3 years, made my weekend miserable.
Ginza is NOT a old Ginza anymore. Last time, I left my togo order for my boy studying at home. I realized to leave that one and call back them 5 minutes later. I am living a Condo cross the road. Their response is they don't know and did not see anything on my table. At that night, there were two tables including us.
So please don't visit. I recommend "I love sushi" or FLO. The reason I visited is it is close to my home. I am not going this...
Read moreWe made a reservation for a Friday evening, and we were glad to have done so! The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived at 7:30PM. Our table was set and then we were seated and given menus, and they kept coming back to our table to take our order even though a person hadn't arrived yet (parking was hard). I didn't really know what to order as there were too many items on the menu, and we ended up getting: baked oysters: I don't eat oysters but had a bit of the burnt top which had a nice smokey flavor agedashi tofu: delicious broth, big pieces of tofu, not very flavorful though American dream roll (shrimp tempura inside with tuna, avocado, and jalapeno on top) and another roll with soft shell crab and cucumber inside with tuna outside: quite standard, nothing to rave about sashimi (3 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of a white fish that I didn't know what it was): fish was tasty, didn't have a fishy taste, definitely fresh tempura (large): shrimp was not crispy and overly battered, had lotus root?!, other vegetables were good and lightly fried, had white fish as well mackerel and salmon cheek: fish was fresh but lacked flavor tempura combo which came with tempura, miso soup, bean sprouts, rice
In general, portions were small, food was fresh but in general not very flavorful. All of this was about $150 post-tax, and it didn't really feel like I ate much at all. Service was fine, they kept coming by to pick up...
