Toshi's Teriyaki — Restaurant in Bellevue

I wanted to find a diamond in the rough, I saw the 3.5 star rating, but I went anyway. Pros: I love a good hole-in-the-wall look and feel, this place has that going for it - and I appreciate I can see into the kitchen. Staff was super nice, 5 stars to them! Cons: The guy who took my payment and went to pack my food did not use gloves or wash his hands in-between, and also was wielding the phone in one hand while using the knife to cut my chicken up in his other hand - impressive on one hand, and yucky on the other. I am all good with the rice being pre-cooked and kept warm - but I feel as though chicken is one of those things you only pre-cook for a lunch rush, the place was dead, and still my chicken came out of a pre-cooked warming container, which meant chicken-jerkey was what's for dinner, and it was... drier than it needed to be. Lastly, compostable containers aren't that expensive, and foam is the absolute enemy, I thought there was a foam-ban? Anyway, packaging is from the 90's, we...

I really do like going here. Food is consistent and not a bad deal.

The person who is always there (owner?) is always friendly, though she always asks me the same questions or makes the same comments every time I go in, such as "Oh, you're not working today?" or "Oh! You are hungry today!" Again, she's very nice and pleasant, though those are often repeated on each visit.

I always order the same thing - a #12 with salt and pepper, with salad, and with brown rice. This includes a half chicken and a skewer of beef - probably more than what I should eat in one sitting, but I do enjoy it! Chicken can tend to be dry, but the beef is actually quite tender. I'm pretty sure these are all pre-cooked, and she just heats them up on the grill.

Oh my goodness!!! This place is soooo delicious and the teriyaki chicken tasted so juicy, succulent and fresh and their teriyaki sauce is not that goopy sweet stuff. Sauce is light and so good. I cannot believe this place has one review less than 5 stars. We drive all the way from Seattle to get take out here!! And every single time it's been just perfection and worth the drive because their prices are reasonable and everything is just tremendous. The owner is also such a humble and nice guy who treats you so well. Everything is made fresh to order (no scary chopping behind a curtain) and their chicken breast white meat teriyaki is one of a kind. You must give this place a chance! It is so so good!!
