Papi Chulos Taqueria has a great atmosphere and truly outstanding customer service. The woman at the front was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. She spoke both English and Spanish, which made the experience even more enjoyable as we were able to chat in Spanish. That kind of connection really added a personal touch. As someone from a border city where authentic Mexican food is part of everyday life, I was excited to try a variety of tacos here. I ordered the birria, carne asada, camarón, and cochinita pibil tacos. The birria and camarón tacos were the highlights—full of flavor and cooked just right. The camarón taco especially stood out as one of the best. However, the carne asada lacked seasoning and didn’t deliver much flavor. The cochinita pibil, unfortunately, didn’t resemble the traditional dish—it tasted like it had been thawed in water and was missing the rich, seasoned flavor you’d expect. I wouldn’t say the tacos overall are very authentic, at least from the perspective of someone familiar with traditional Mexican cuisine. Still, the friendly service and a couple of standout tacos made the visit enjoyable. I’d rate the food a soft 3 out of 5—some great potential with room for improvement in authenticity and flavor.

Popped into Papi Chulos for the first time on a Tuesday morning just after 10am to fill a hankering for a breakfast burrito before diving back into work. It was totally empty aside from the gal working but she greeted me warmly and took my order (breakfast burrito with chorizo added, about $15 with tip) and handed me a number to wait with. Sat for maybe 5-10 minutes and was handed a small but hefty bag with a couple sauces included. Got home a bit later and from the first bite I was impressed with the burst of flavor - lightly charred veggies, seasoned chorizo, gooey melted cheese, and properly toasted tortilla. I quickly popped the sauces open and found the green one able to go toe to toe with the burritos flavor, but the red kinda fell off for me and was harder to detect. I love spice and heavy hits of flavor though. Curious to have other meals, but almost assuredly will be back for another breakfast burrito down the line!

This is a bright and fun, casual, counter service spot. Birria burrito was sooo tasty and my husband said he would be craving it in the future for sure. Verduras taco had some fun flavor combinations going on while the carne taco was dry and just sort of average. For drinks, I had the passion fruit margarita with a chamoy and tajin rim, and my husband had the mezcalita with tajin rim. Both were great, but pretty small compared to what you'd get for the price at other places around town. Super loud, upbeat music playing which I enjoyed and I think fits the food and the vibe, but it's just something to know in case you're looking for something quieter. Overall, it's a nice addition to the area and I think we'll be back for the birria for sure!

If I could give 0 stars on the customer service I would.

I was excited to try some " authentic" Mexican food, so l picked Papi Chulo's for the group. We all placed our order and the girl working the register who's name ! think was Emila or something similar read back our order with everything correct. I ordered chips and salsa & burrito bowl, the salsa was so thick almost to the point like tomato paste, i had to ask for salt and pepper because it had no salt. Almost 35 min went by before anyone received their food we even had time to walk across the street and order oyster shots and bring them back and sit down and eat them prior to getting their food. so l ordered a burrito bowl and I waited patiently for it, while everyone else was eating. I thought possibly it was going to take longer cause everyone else got tacos and I got something different. 15 minutes go by and everyone is basically done with their food. I have still yet to get mine. Mind you she read the order back and everyone's food was on the order including mine. As she's helped multiple people between bringing our party's food out and other peoples, I asked kindly why my food was not out yet. She looked at me with an annoyed expression and stated that she already gave me my food. And I told her no I have not received mine but everyone else did. She then asked what did I order and went to the kitchen and asked. She turned around and stated they did not prepare my food and forgot about it, that it was now going to be prepared and simply stated no I would just like a refund as by now annoyed expression and stated that she already gave me my food. And I told her no I have not received mine but everyone else did. She then asked what did I order and went to the kitchen and asked. She turned around and stated they did not prepare my food and forgot about it, that it was now going to be prepared and simply stated no I would just like a refund as by now everyone in my party is done eating. And was rude and questioned if we were going to leave already then with an extremely bad attitude. I expressed to her no as my husband still had his drink to finish. As she's continued looking for my order and cost of it she rolled her eyes, and began to use a sarcastic tone asked whose card did we even use. I expressed it was my husband's card and that she did not need to be rude as I was being polite. She then stated she could only take my name and number down. I asked to SPEAK to the manager and she called and wouldn't let me talk to the manager or supervisor. I felt like the owner or manager should know how their employees are acting or treating customers when an error is made, it was her responsibility to make sure all the order was made and the proper way to handle the situation. I hope this does not happen to...

1st experience was via delivery and wasn’t satisfactory due to confusion with the modifications and add-ons. Ordered a quesadilla wanting salsas on the side when it was cooked inside the quesadilla itself. By the time it was delivered it wasn’t appetizing and soggy due to too much liquid soaking through the tortilla during transit. The salsas made it way too spicy. Called restaurant and explained issue. They offered to remake the quesadilla and have it redelivered. I appreciated this good will gesture but declined due to time constraints in waiting for redelivery.

I gave it another go with ordering and dining on-site. This 2nd experience was completely different in a very positive way. The quesadilla was crispy on the outside with the shrimp being incredibly succulent and the cheese oozing out in the very best way. Simply delicious and generous for the price paid. I had salsas and sour cream on the side and that elevated it even further.

To summarize, ordering via delivery app can be vague when customizing and it can avoid issue to call after ordering if you added guacamole or sour cream and don’t want it inside the quesadilla itself. Otherwise, the in person...
