AMAL ALSHAM SHAWARMA — Restaurant in Biddeford

Went here recently because I pass by it every day. Went in the evening, when the regular dinner rush was over. After speaking with the gentleman about the different selections, I chose the regular chicken shawarma plate. It came with slaw and fries. The wrap was a flaky pastry (similar to what baklava is made with) and nicely flavored. The place had a friendly and cool vibe, and the staff who took my order was both kind and knowledgeable. The only disappointment was how dry the chicken was. I had to put the pieces in the dip, because it was too dry to eat as it was. Nice change of pace to see Middle Eastern food in Biddeford. Coleslaw and french fries were underwhelming as the coleslaw was way overdressed and the fries limp and undercooked. Not what I’d expect for sides with Syrian food anyway - maybe they are trying too hard to please many palates? The chicken shawarma was very flavorful but a bit dry. I’m hoping as more people try the food the chicken won’t have a chance to dry out as much. The sauces were a great compliment and added another nice dimension to the wrap. Sorry to say this shwarma roll up was the absolute worst sandwich I have ever had. No joking I’ve probably had 250 shwarmas while working in Norwood MA. The chicken had zero taste. The only thing that had flavor was the garlic sauce. I’m glad I had it on the side. I ordered fries well done & again a dissapointment. The fries were soggy a far cry from well done as requested. Both sandwiches thrown out. The reviews I had read on Yelp told a different story. Apparently people from the Biddeford area do not know a good schwarma from bad schwarma.
