Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Big Rapids

Applebee’s is one of my favorite places to eat because of the affordable prices, their half off apps, and their monthly drink specials. It’s the perfect setting for college students who only have a specific amount of money to spend. When I visited Applebee’s, we were seated so quickly it did not give me much opportunity to even get the name of our hostess. However, the hostess greeted us and very genuine. Our server, Carissa was exceptional. We ordered the strawberry dollarita alcoholic drinks and she promptly asked for all of our IDs as she is supposed to. She was very quick about bringing us our drinks along with some waters while we decided on what we wanted to order. Some of us did not know what we wanted to order quite yet, and she was very patient with us and gave us more time to decide. Right now, at Applebee’s they are offering a 3-course meal for $14.99 and higher based on your entrée, and this is so affordable for not only college students but families as well. I decided to order the 3-course meal at my visit to Applebee’s and it was excellent. The timing of the food coming out to our table was out in a timely manner. Carissa herself didn’t bring us any of our food, but other servers were willing to help her by bringing it to us for her. After we received our food, Carissa made sure to continuously come back to our table to ask us how we were doing and if we needed anything. She was very attentive to our table about our drinks. If we needed more water or anything else, she was very quick and prompt about it. I was not able to completely eat all of the food in the 3-course meal I ordered. The restaurant itself was clean and well maintained. There were quite a few guests there during the time of my visit, and as busy as they were my group and I were helped without any problems or long wait times. Carissa without hesitation was willing to get me a take-out box for my food to finish at a later time. I have had many servers who are offended or is concerned when I am not able to finish all of the food that I order, and Carissa made me feel not so pressured when she did not press me about needing a take-out box for my food. The whole experience was so welcoming and inviting. The hostess and the servers did not treat us with any disrespect and were willing to get everything we needed in a timely fashion. The staff at Applebee’s have always made going to dinner there a pleasant one. I commend the management team on training their staff properly and treating their employees well. I ate at Applebee's on Tuesday April 9, 2019, and let me start by saying the overall experience was good! Before I came I called to ask the hours of operation, the location,and if they take reservations. (Which they don’t)He was very polite and took the time to answer all my questions without hesitations. We went in at about 6:00p, which is normally a dinner rush and you could see that because it was busy but that didn’t seem to stop anyone. When we first walked in you could smell the food a lot. The hostess Gabby had us seated immediately. When we were going towards our table I noticed a few dirty tables and tissues on the ground. In less than 5 minutes our server Thereasa was over to our table greeting us and taking drink orders. The overall atmosphere mood of the employees were joyful and happy. Thereasa was making conversation with us when we were sitting and she had time. The drinks were to us in about 2 minutes. The menu had a lot of options & deals and was very easily read to find them. After we were given drinks we had about 7 minutes to look at the menu and decide. One thing I noticed is she didn’t attempt to upsell or give any recommendations to us. I ordered a salad, chicken tacos, and boneless wings. She asked if I wanted the salad now or if I wanted to wait for the rest of my food. I took it now and she brought it out immediately. The rest of our food took about 20 minutes. As she brought it she noticed one of our peoples food was messed up. She noticed before she set the plate down and took it back to the kitchen to be remade. The food was all fresh & hot. In about 5 minutes she came back to check, which in my opinion I would have given a few more minutes but at least she came and checked on us They gave us what I felt was worth our money. Going into the bathroom; it was decently clean. The atmosphere wasn’t to loud. Lots of talking, but with the amount of TVs they own you’d expect it to be louder. The outer appearance was good, all the lights were in a working condition, the building looked clean, but there were a few tissues in the parking lot, but you could tell it had been cleaned recently. She began busting the table as we were slowly finishing eating. We didn’t feel rushed to leave as she told us to take our time and finish. Overall I was amazed with the service that Applebees gave us. The only thing that I could see they could approve was cleaning the floor a bit more to give the store a cleaner look. Bob: Cheese Bites? Are they like little bites of heaven?

Johniece: Absolutely! They're cheesier than a dad joke. Would you like to give them a try?

Sarah: Sure, why not? Bring on the cheese adventure!

[Johniece heads to the kitchen. Cut to the kitchen where the Chef is preparing the Cheese Bites]

Chef: (muttering to himself) These Cheese Bites are so good; they should come with a warning label for addiction.

[Johniece returns with a plate of Cheese Bites]

Johniece: Here you go, folks! Our signature Cheese Bites. Enjoy!

[Bob and Sarah take a bite and exchange exaggerated expressions of delight]

Bob: (with a mouthful) These are amazing! Johniece, you're a cheese magician!

Johniece: Well, I've been known to sprinkle a little magic here and there. Anything else I can get for you?

Sarah: Just keep the Cheese Bites coming, Johniece. We might need an intervention soon.

[Johniece chuckles and leaves the table. Cut to a later scene where Bob and Sarah are surrounded by empty Cheese Bites plates]

Bob: I think I've reached my cheese limit. I'm officially lactose full.

Sarah: (laughs) Johniece, you've turned us into Cheese Bites addicts.

[Johniece returns]

Johniece: How was everything?

Bob: Outstanding! We're considering opening a Cheese Bites support group. You in?

Johniece: (laughs) I'll be the president. Just remember, you're always welcome at Applebee's for your cheesy fix.
