I'm vegan and I wasn't sure what my options would be here. Turns out, I had multiple options and the staff were very accommodating! I could get a house salad without the cheese, which turned out to be kind of plain, but I like salad. It was huge, no small salad portions here! They certainly give you your money's worth. The other delicious option was a baked potato with the vegetable topping/filling. I think the topping included broccoli, peppers, and onions, and maybe other vegetables too. It was tasty and simple, not much oil, just the way I like it! This one was also a big portion. Of the two options, the winner was the baked potato!
If you're vegan, get ready for some simple, tasty food.
The person taking my order at the counter knew enough about the menu and food preparation process to answer my questions about ingredients and what could be added or removed from menu items. Another interesting part of the experience here is that the manager likes to walk around (during the lunch rush at least) and make sure everyone is happy with their order and enjoying the food. Finally, if you live in the area or have a friend who does, it seems quite easy to get coupons for McAlister's, at least within the first few months of the opening. So whenever I go, I never have to pay full price!
Edit: If you're a vegan who eats bread, I think I remember them having some sort of veggie sandwich. Might have been a vegetarian melt but you can take off the cheese? I don't remember because I don't eat bread, but I think you may have that...
Read moreFood is inconsistent at best. When they first opened, it was fantastic. However, it has since gone down hill.
I was recently in Oklahoma for two months for work. I routinely ate lunch at McAllister's. The restaurants there are far superior. Never any issues.
Came to this location at 2pm on a Sunday a month ago. Waited almost an hour for my food. When it came out, it was wrong and cold. The manager apologized and gave me a coupon to come back for free. He also comped my meal.
So I came back today. I arrived at 12:45. My sandwich didn't come out until 1:30. That's just crazy. Why not go to an actual restaurant?? I will admit the food was better this time. However the service is lacking. The restaurant is mostly staffed with high school kids. There was garbage all over the floors and some of the staff members looked filthy (soaking wet t-shirts, dirty clothes, etc). I'm not expecting a five star atmosphere, but as I said I ate at this restaurant routinely in Oklahoma over the course of two months at probably every location they had. This location has a ton of work to do and I don't plan on returning for a very long time.
You can easily go elsewhere and get the same or better quality of food for a lesser...
Read moreThe menu of soups, salads, and sandwiches makes McAllister's a nice alternative to Panera. A relatively new chain to this area, the Bloomingdale location has a fresh feel and the semi-fast food (order at the counter and take the number back to your table) system they use works well for the fare. As a vegetarian, I was, of course, very pleased with their selection of salads, but I wasn't in the mood for a salad when I went. Luckily, the one vegetarian sandwich on the menu was quite tasty. I enjoyed the mix of the sauce with the balsamic marinade of some of the vegetables in the sandwich. The inclusion of avocado was a nice touch, too. I ordered the "pick two" option so my half sandwich was accompanied by a cup of hot broccoli cheddar soup. Wow! This was the creamiest, molten broccoli cheddar soup I've ever had. It was almost like liquid cheese sauce. Unlike most broccoli cheddar soups, there were distinguishable pieces of broccoli, of course, and also carrots. I was also pleased that the iced tea was brewed and not from the soda fountain. There is quite a bit more on the menu that I'd like to try. I'll definitely be...
