After reading reviews online we decided to have dinner at Sue' s Burgers. I took my family of 5 and when we entered we werent exactly sure of we should sit or approach the counter. I approached the counter to ask and the lady said we will order first then they call your number to come get your order. The menu is written on chalk boards above the ordering station/preparation area. Having never been to the diner it took us a minute to figure out what we wanted. This seemed to annoy the lady who wanted to take our order. She was not friendly at all. After everyone figured out what they wanted we ordered as follows: My 4 year old and 7 year old both ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, fries and small cokes. (The French fries are the crinkle kind and nothing special about them. However it is a rather larger serving especially for kids. They could have shared an order.) My 12 year old ordered a bbq pork sandwich and a medium coke. (The sandwich was huge and he said it was very good. He is a growing boy and was unable to eat it all.) My husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger combo (his combo came with onion rings and a medium coke.)(This burger was also huge and he commented that it was one of the best burgers he has had.) I ordered a BLT grilled sandwich and a bottled water. (The BLT had shredded lettuce which was weird but not terrible. It also had two extremely thick slices of tomato, i had to remove one because it just wasn't necessary.) We also ordered the cheese sticks. (The marinara was the pre-packaged one and was awful.) It is important to point out that Sue's does not accept any payment other than cash. They do however have an atm inside their diner. The major turn off for my family were the prices. Our total was $50! For lunch at a diner. We pay that at a steak house for dinner. Anyway we paid the $50 cash and we never given a receipt to check the prices or the total. This diner is old school and apparently don't give receipts. It wasn't a bad experience but will likely not return based on prices alone. $50 for lunch!? That's crazy. (We are Florida residents and went during the hurricane irma...
Read moreWe waited for about 35 or more minutes. I went to ask how much longer because we had to be somewhere. I told the young girl our number, and she said the ticket just went up here, it will be 45 minutes. She said I told you there would be a wait when you ordered. I went back to our seat to tell family. Then the girl was washing tables. We asked her why so long? She was rude, to say the least. She said that when you paid for your food, I told you there would be a wait.We said no you didn't because we knew our 2 autistic kids could not wait that long. SHE RUDELY STATED I CAN SHOW YOU THE VIDEO CAMERA!!! We asked to see the manager or owner, the young girl stated that is me. Then she stated that everyone who isn't around here complains, and if you want to leave go.I will give you your money back. All we asked for was how much longer. She said you are number42, and your order just went up on the board. No, I said my number was 32 which I stated when I went up to the counter. Remember, we have been patiently waiting alreasy for over 35 minutes. She repeated you can leave and I will refund your money. She was saying how stress she is . Who isn't stressed out at a job? You don't disrespect customers no matter what kind of day you are having! ALL WE WANTED TO KNOW WAS HOW MUCH LONGER! We were all so stunned on how rude this young family owner was to us. My sister went up to talk to her when we got the food. The girl apologized to my sister. She probably wouldn't have apologized to us if we didn't go up to the counter. We wanted to leave and eat somewhere else. However, one of the young adults with Autism was starting to get upset. Who talks to their customers that way?? It is funny that the owners have a bowl that is filled with Christian sayings on how to treat people and ...
Read moreI wish I could give 3.5 stars, because I feel like that's a more accurate representation of how I would rate food at Sue's. I'm putting 4 stars because it was an overall good experience. It was a slow time when we went around 4pm, so the wait wasn't long at all. Fries: These are very basic frozen cafeteria fries. They arrived hot and crunchy, but have no flavor at all. Coleslaw: No one we know likes it. It's actually some of the worst I've ever had. Tastes like yellow sugar-water. They can keep that recipe secret. Burgers: The burgers are good and tasty. Ours were a little overdone, but still juicy. I would not say this is one of the best burgers I've ever had. Especially for the price - my cheeseburger was $5.99 which is ok, but to add a drink, those tasteless fries and the worst coleslaw ever makes it $10.99! However, I can understand why they might be highly rated in a small area like Blue Ridge since there aren't many other options. There is also a selection of cake. I didn't have any, but they looked pretty good! As I read in the other reviews, it's true that the employees could be better and faster at cleaning tables. We were there about an hour. People came and went, but none of the tables were wiped down during our whole time there. The employees weren't busy. It is cash only, but there's an ATM on site for a fee. I'm not sure why, but there's a dessert case of beanie babies on the right when you walk in the door... I just thought that...
