I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for years and have extensively tried their menu. The rating I want to relay is 4.5 but Google won’t allow that. I 99.9% of the time order through DoorDash from this restaurant, for transparency.
I enjoy much of this restaurant’s menu and have very few complaints. Most of the food is good American-Japanese fare and tastes good. However, there is a glaring let down in the menu and that is the ramen. I have had the ramen several times now, trying different flavours, and each time I have found this restaurant’s ramen either substandard or unpleasant. I have had authentic ramen in both Japan and in Japanese restaurants in America and other parts of the world, and so I think I have a good frame of reference to base this opinion on. It really is the weakest part of the menu in my opinion, though I do think the jammy eggs are done well. I would highly encourage the staff here to rethink this menu option as I do think it could be a very popular choice if improved. Onigiri would also be an easy and popular addition in my opinion too. That’s another story though.
Don’t let my opinion on this one section of Izumi’s menu dissuade you though, the rest of the menu from my experience in house and from ordering online has been very positive. The staff meticulously package each order so to avoid mess and to say I’ve been ordering food from this restaurant regularly for years I can count on one hand spillage incidents, which could equally be due to accidents caused by delivery drivers. The orders also come in reusable branded bags which I also appreciate. It’s a nice touch. They always include soy sauce, chopsticks, napkins, and oftentimes a complimentary miso soup and salad (a nice addition). I enjoy both raw sushi and cooked sushi and have eaten both from this restaurant. I have found the quality of either variant to be very good. I also enjoy their katsu dishes and sauce. A katsu option with curry sauce could also be a nice addition to the menu. I know some prefer it. I personally very much enjoy the version available on the menu though.
Ultimately, this is a good and fair place. I would recommend it upon visiting the area and I will continue to order from it. The staff seem to genuinely care about their work and it shows in the consistency of the quality of their food. They obviously...
Read moreThis review is for the owner. My brother runs sushi store and I like Chirashi very much.
Problem with Chirashi from this store.
Sashimi is too thick and cannot wrap rice. Giving more fish is good but wonder if the cook ever though about wrapping rice with the piece. Impossible. Why not giving the same amount with thin piece? I often see Japanese sushi store run by Chinese has issue with cutting too thick. Wrapping fish with rice is the key point of Chirashi in my opinion. You make your own sushi for fun. Sashimi for Chirashi should be thinner and long so that it is easy to play to make my sushi. Rice was cooked nice.
Salad box has only minimal pieces of vegitable. I think whoever sets up the togobox for salad should be retrained. I don't believe the store makes this joke salad box for cost.
Danmuji(Korean(?) yellow radish). This must be a joke. If this is to replace ginger, it's OK. But it should go to the fish side, not all over the rice. Cold with cold, not cold with hot.
4-1. The reception guy(maybe female)attitude was questionable. He repeated twice asking order confirmation number to give me the box. I said I was not given the number. Instead I gave my phone number, there was only one bag behind him, the receipt attached to the box has my phone number printed BIG. No apology.
4-2. The same guy forgot wasabi in the togobox, thank god I checked the contents. Again, he never apologized, avoided eye contact with me. The other lady came to resolved and answered with smile to me when I said, thank you.
Over all price is ressonable $24.99 but fine touch of food and box setting and service attitude is not excellent.
Freshness of fish is unknown until tomorrow, if I am OK, it will be no...
Read moreUpdate as 5/1/17: Apparently the family has recently sold this location, now with a new name of Izumi. I have yet to dine there with this new management. The review below is for the last incarnation of this location.
WONDERFUL little family owned gem with HIGH grade sushi to boot!
Wonderful, extensive menu and an attentive and helpful staff ALONG with presentation beyond anything you would expect from the Youngstown area, Fushimi takes sushi, Japanese and Asian cuisine to a whole new level! Rarely, and I do mean RARELY do find a dining establishment where the owners and management make it a point to stop and say HI to each and every table table and inquire as to your happiness with your selection and service EACH and every time you visit! These good people, a husband and wife team, also own Pho Saigon, right up the street on South Ave, also in Boardman and albeit a far more downscale restaurant, you are offered the SAME high quality, attention and service. PLUS a surprise piece of Fried Cheesecake for my birthday, on the house! When was the last time you could COUNT on consistency, service and quality, not at a "break the bank" type of price point?? Pictured is the 12 pc Sashimi, chef's choice I had for my big day. What a fresh, wonderful mouthwatering treat.
Fushimi, you have made TRUE loyalists outta of us! Even those of us at this party not into sushi are now hooked...but you be sure and GIMME my sushi!!
Thank You! From the bottom of our...
