One of the best bagel shops in Boston at the moment.
The hype around this Boston bagel shop had my expectations high. About a month ago, I decided to try their bagels with a pre-scheduled Saturday pickup. Even though everyone had a secured order, the line for pickup started forming an hour before opening. To pass the time, I grabbed a coffee from South End Buttery and sat on their patio.
The perk of being the first in line was that I was able to enjoy fresh hot bagels almost straight from the oven. Both the Cheddar and Sesame bagels had an impeccably pillowy texture with just the right amount of chewiness. The Cheddar bagel, covered in crispy baked cheddar, was one of the most intriguing bagels I've ever had. It was slightly greasy, so it was better enjoyed on its own rather than with cream cheese. The Lox cream cheese I got on the side was light, creamy, and had just the right amount of lox flavor, making it a perfect dip for the sesame bagel.
On my second visit, I did a Wednesday morning pickup and found virtually no wait. This time, I tried the Rosemary Salt and Everything bagels. Both were slightly denser, with fewer air pockets than the ones I had a month ago. Given that these bagels are baked in small batches, the quality seemed to vary depending on the day. Despite the slight difference in texture, both bagels were generously covered in their respective seasonings and were good on their own. I also tried the bacon and scallion cream cheese this time, and the large chunks of bacon made it extra enjoyable.
There's no doubt these are high-quality bagels. However, the $7 price tag for two bagels feels a tad steep, and the cumbersome ordering and pickup process makes it challenging to consider this a regular spot. Also, having the option to buy a single bagel instead of two would be much...
Read moreWhen they first started up and were hand delivering bagels to peoples houses I just knew they were going to be big.
South End is home to two Uppababy stores and NO bagel spots. There’s like 8 optometrists and NO bagel spots. There’s three kitchen cabinet showrooms and NOOOOO bagel spots.
Not only is brick street providing a necessary service (like, seriously, what did people even eat for breakfast before them? Gruel?) but the bagels are phenomenal. The people are nice and friendly. They have done amazingly well for being utterly inundated by demand. The people want bagels and they just so happen to have one of the best bagels I’ve ever have had. Beyond the hype and the lines and the reservation, ultimately you have a very very good bagel that can stand on its own. And their scallion cream cheese is fresh and sooo good.
Furthermore, it’s so nice to see young business owners find a niche and bring something new to the south end. Love their collabs with Neighborhood Wines. Makes me feel like there’s actually cool things happening in our...
Read moreThe bagels and schmear were phenomenal! I had a rosemary and sea salt bagel as well as an everything bagel with the bacon scallion schmear. Delicious but not something I would go out of my way for again as a tourist. It’s clearly popular amongst locals and I totally see why. If I lived here I’d probably be grabbing bagels frequently on a weekend morning. If you’re not familiar with the place, you’re going to feel rushed to place your order and go. They exclusively sell bagels and schmear - no coffee or other typical breakfast items so prepare to stand in the long line at the cafe next door or elsewhere if you were hoping for a full breakfast. Nothing wrong with that, just wasn’t abundantly clear to me until I got there. 5 stars for the bagels and schmear themselves; the rest is just my...
