I spent my 40th birthday in Boston and wanted to try Boston Steak Tips ($15) and a beer ($6). My first experience at Clarke's was fine. The staff was prompt, the food was amazing, and the prices were competitive. I got my bill and it was tallied correctly ($15 + $6 + tax).
The second time I came here, I ordered the Steak Tip Wrap ($13) and a water. The waitress took a while to come to our table, despite the place being empty, but she seemed to be pretty preoccupied with her phone. The wrap was good, though not as good as the steak tip entree, and when she brought the bill over, she charged an extra two dollars for the wrap, before charging tax. When I confronted her about it, she proceeded to treat me like an idiot: "Sir, your meal was $13 plus tax. You have to pay tax." "Yes," I said, "but then you added tax. And I'm fairly certain that Boston's tax rate isn't greater than 15%."
The waitress didn't admit to her mistake, yet kept shaking her head and, growing louder and increasingly frustrated, demanded I pay the price on the receipt.
Obviously the staff needs to be trained better, or tested for basic math skills. It may be hit or miss, here. If you don't want to deal with being lied to, belittled, and overcharged, there are a million other places in Boston for...
Read moreGreat place! Awesome staff.
I come here almost every day and all the bartenders i normally encounter are Sammy, Shannon, Eric, Gracie, and Mora, they are great. Amanda is just a lovable person, full of spirit with an awesome attitude along with Hae-min who is spot on with the drinks! I was impressed that Hae-min was able to find a drink that knocked the attitude out of my S.O. for a bit. The bouncers are fantastic, I usually run into Paul at the door more than the others. The food portions are huge and everything taste great. I highly recommend the Turkey Tips!!!
My only advice is to watch your consumption. The bartenders do care here and will cut you off. I have seen people get cut off because they just pound shot after shot.
I may just see myself as a face in the crowd but they know me, know what I drink, knows what all my colleagues drink without mixing them up, from the Kaliber, to Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light, Titos and Club soda......
I can't say it enough....
Read moreSome blonde in her 30s told me i couldn't come in with food from another restaurant-- in reality I had only a bite left from my $35 dollar lobster roll-- and as I was hastily and aggressively confronted on the issue as soon as I entered the restaurant, I offered to throw the food out. You'd think that would be enough to be treated with a modicum of respect but apparently it wasn't enough as this hostess snarled at me and said "you can't come in here with food" as if I didn't hear her the first time. What's worse is that I was there with a friend whom I was giving the 'Boston tour' and was humiliated in front of him. I've been here for 8 years and have never EVER been treated with such disrespect. The real manager eventually showed up and tried to mitigate but she too was dismissive of my concerns. I'd give this place -5 stars if I could. Don't waste your time going to...
