I wanted to celebrate my wife’s birthday at a nice restaurant. We have been to other high-end restaurants in the area and were let down because of lack of service, food quality, and inability to accommodate my wife being vegan. I called Mooo (a steakhouse I know) about the special occasion and dietary preference. I spoke with a pleasant person named Tutu. We spoke on several occasions. She assured me everything would be taken care of. I’ve been through this song and dance before, so my expectations were low.
When we arrived, we were greeted by Tutu herself. She walked us to our table and given our menus. It was personalized wishing my wife a happy birthday! Very nice touch. Our server, Brad, came over and wished my wife a happy birthday (did not happen at other high-end places), and was aware of my wife being vegan (did not happen at other high-end places). He was able to answer most of our questions and make recommendations based on her preference. A sommelier (forgot her name but she was great) came over and was able to recommend a great vegan wine from Oregon.
My wife ordered a customized vegetable plate while I had a NY sirloin. Mooo is the first place to cook my steak the way I wanted it. I like my steak black and blue, emphasis on the black. I like it very charred. Other steakhouses stated they were unable to do it without making the steak medium rare, which is total BS. My steak came out perfect! It had a nice outer crunch and very rare in the middle. My wife’s vegetable plate was excellent! She loved it as she ate it all.
Different people touched our table to check in on us. It wasn’t overbearing. They were there but not there. It was nice to know that if we needed anything, we could get it within seconds. Everyone was fast and friendly.
At the end of the meal, we were surprised by a pear sorbet with happy birthday written in chocolate! The sorbet was delicious! We had surprise after surprise, and this meal was very special to the both of us. The service was fantastic, the food was amazing, and we could tell that a steakhouse really went above and beyond to accommodate a vegan. My wife was so impressed by everything, she is planning to bring her vegan friends!
I highly recommend this place for any occasion! Special shout out again to Tutu, Brad, and everyone else. They did a lot of things they didn’t have to do, and it really showed. They went the extra mile to make us have a memorable experience. I've been to more expensive and (supposedly) higher rated places, and they are not on the level of Mooo. This place is in a class of its own! The service alone is worth every...

It took about 10 minutes for our waiter to come over and ask if we wanted drinks. We ordered drinks and then ordered food. At 8:45…we received our food. Mind you, the restaurant was practically empty. How did it take over an hour to get 2 steaks (a filet and strip) plus mashed potatoes and asparagus I’ll never know. The waiter never stopped by to let us know he would check in on our food. We watched several tables who arrived after us get seated, get their drinks AND their food before us. We finally were able to flag our waiter down and he checked on our food for us. They brought our mediocre steak that wasn’t even warm. At that point we weren’t even hungry, but we still ate it. Even after the fact that it took over an hour, almost an hour and a half, to get our meals, we asked to see a dessert menu to celebrate. Around 9 pm the waiter FINALLY brought over the dessert menu. After sitting for 15 min waiting for him to come take our order, we decided to close the menus in hopes that would alert him that we were ready. Nope. We tried flagging him over multiple times. Despite how annoyed we were, we still decided to order the creme brûlée. We received the bill, and what do you know, they charged us for the birthday dessert. Normally I wouldn’t mind paying, but I was so disgusted by the service and the fact that it was almost 10 pm that they had the audacity to include it on the bill. I will not be back. It took a lot in us to not just get up and leave. I’ve already alerted all my friend to not go there. There are much better steak houses with better service AND a birthday desert on the...
Read moreThis place confuses me. I’ve been to both the Beacon Hill and Seaport locations, and have been disappointed in similar ways each time. I like to think our Beacon Hill experience was out of the norm (really tough, unseasoned meat, watery creamed spinach, flavorless beef carpaccio, and below average service), but there were similar themes in Seaport that make me think this place is just overrated.
On a positive note, the service at the Seaport location was excellent. Very attentive and the meal was well timed. We thoroughly enjoyed the Tuna Tartare. The sides we ordered were delicious as well - we got the creamed spinach and truffle tater tots. Though the wine list is generally overpriced, we found a great value left-bank Bordeaux that we enjoyed with our meal. The ambiance of the Seaport location is also impeccable - they’ve done a really nice job implementing the industrial feel of the Fort Point neighborhood.
All this said, the steaks are extremely overpriced and underwhelming. They lack the char that you’d expect from a top tier steakhouse, and there is very little seasoning. The quality of the beef is not high enough to warrant such minimal preparation. This has been the experience we’ve had with every cut of meat we’ve ordered at this restaurant - filet mignon & prime ribeye in Seaport and american waygu sirloin & bone-in ribeye in Beacon hill.
Overall, we still had an enjoyable evening at the Seaport location which is why I give the restaurant three stars. I just don’t think it’s worth the prices. I’d highly recommend Grill23 as a more local alternative. Del Frisco’s in Seaport also has the best tomahawk for two deal I’ve seen...
