I had the most regrettable experience this past weekend at Sullivan's Tap. Me and a large group of friends came in for the last couple drinks of the night after having dinner and one or two wines in a different location. I came to the bar to order a beer and the bartender, Maddi I believe she was called, refused to serve me and proceeded to request that I be removed from the establishment because I was 'so drunk I couldn't even talk'. The problem apparently was that she couldn't, or wouldn't, understand my accent. She was incredibly rude and offensive when my friends tried to explain to hear that I was indeed NOT drunk at all, that what she heard was just my natural accent, at which point she started going on and on about how she was not a racist. Once outside, even one of the bouncers came to apologize for what happened and even mentioned that this wasn't the first time something like this had happened. It goes without saying that this was a very painful, stressful situation for myself and my group of friends, who proceeded to move on to the bar next door. Events like this should never happen or be allowed in this century, even less in a large and cosmopolitan city like Boston which I have known and even lived in in the past. I would expect management to take action in having employees who are capable of such things. In the meantime, and if you care at all about what how immigrants are treated in your city, I would avoid this...
Read moreSully's has been our go-to place before games & concerts at the Garden, but our most recent visit was REAL disappointing. Half the vintage Boston Sports Memorabilia has been removed from the walls (down on the Canal St Side anyways) which is half the mystique of the bar. Someone clearly didn't plan the weekend properly because the bar was out of Bud Light and Coors Light, but when I asked the bartender what I could have his response was 'whatever you want my man'....clearly not. It seems like a much younger staff, maybe they're not as experienced yet because while I don't think they meant ill, but they tried to prop the bar door open while guests were inside....it was 30 degrees out and flooded the bar with the smell of cigarettes. Hoping it was just a bad day, and they're able to get back to the same identity that made the place so lovable to those of us who don't want the uber-fancy new-wave club style bars where patrons have to over pay for the flair for a...
Read moreStopped in after a Bruins game for a beer with my brother in law and nephew. I held the door open for them and two strangers so I was the last one in. As I was reaching for my id (I’m 50 with grey hair but I know the drill) the bouncer said “you’re not getting in here tonight, I didn’t like the way you came through the door”. I had one beer at the game in the first period! Told me there were plenty of other bars in the neighborhood. Would’ve loved to have gone anywhere else but my guys were inside so I walked to the other entrance where I was welcomed in. Last time I stop there...
