Visit on 6/23/25 The ice cream was amazing—that’s the highlight I want to share first. Unfortunately, what followed was one of the strangest, most uncomfortable, and frankly grossest restaurant experiences we’ve ever had. We were hesitant to eat there to begin with because the restaurant was visibly dirty inside, but we decided to give it a chance. We placed our order and specifically requested the relish that was advertised with the Italian sandwich—it sounded delicious and was part of what drew us in. When our food arrived, we couldn’t see any relish on the sandwich. Since our total was around $80, we felt justified asking for a side of the relish we believed we had paid for. What happened next was bizarre. A staff member came out from behind the counter, grabbed the sandwich with her gloved hand, opened it up, and started digging through it right at our table. She pointed and said, “There’s relish—you just can’t see it.” Then she literally said, “If you look right here, there’s a speck. That’s relish.” When we asked if we could please just have a small side of relish, she refused, saying it was against company policy to provide a cup of it because the recipe was a “corporate secret.” We were honestly baffled—this wasn’t about a recipe; we just wanted the relish we ordered. Next, we had ordered three ice cream cones but were instead given three small dishes. A minor thing, sure—but the kids were visibly disappointed, and after the previous interaction, it felt like one more letdown. The most concerning issue, however, was a potential health code violation: we witnessed staff take food out the front door, then return to the kitchen without changing their gloves. That’s something that should be reported to the health department. But we just will skip this establishment from now on.

There should either be instructions to ordering the concretes or an employee who explains to you what is in it. I ordered a vanilla peanut cluster concrete. Based on the layout of the menu I assumed I could pick a custard base and add mix ins. When I received the chocolate concrete I let the employee know that I had ordered vanilla he told me the peanut cluster is made with chocolate custard and they wouldn’t be remaking it. So when I ordered it with vanilla custard why did the employee not inform me of that? Is it standard practice to just let customers ask for a product they don’t offer, let them pay for it, and then give them a different product. Had I been informed that the what I asked for wasn’t an option I could have easily picked something else. Since I was now left with something I already paid for I thought I might as well try it before throwing it away. I assume something with the name Peanut Cluster makes it very obvious that the item is supposed to have a peanuts in it. There were maybe 10 peanuts in this entire thing. In the end I paid over $8 for a cup of chocolate custard. This was such a disappointing experience for a place that was rated in the top 100 Best Things to Eat in America. I will not be returning and I wouldn’t recommend. I’m only giving two starts because of how employees managed the amount of customers.

We went to Neilsen’s Frozen Custard for the first time. It has an old school look to it from the outside. Only the drive thru was open, perhaps due to COVID. The menu was confusing as I had no idea what a concrete was until I asked. The menu just has their own titles without a little description next to it. It looks like they had food and frozen custard menu. I ended up getting the oreo concrete and bumbleberry with vanilla custard f.c. topper. There’s no doubt that the frozen custard was good! To me, it kind of tasted like ice cream. The concrete cup size is huge (it was a pint). I think the single f.c. topper would be enough for one person. The bumbleberry f.c. topper was a mix of strawberry and raspberry fruit topping on top of vanilla custard. It was very fresh and delicious, probably moreso than the oreo concrete. However, it also reminded me a bit of the strawberry sundae at McDonalds. Not sure why it tasted so similar to ice cream. Either way, the frozen custard was great! However, I’ve had better from other places.

We’ve lived in the area for over 2 years now and finally decided to try this place out. We were excited at first because we love supporting local business and love old fashion diners. Everything from placing our order was going smooth until I had to go back to ask if I could switch out my drink for a different one, I originally ordered a large Diet Coke but for some reason it tasted like carbonated water with no flavor. When I asked the first worker told me that he doesn’t think I can get it switched out, I was confused at first and explained why I wanted switched out because it tasted really watered down, than another worker blonde hair, kinda chubby, young came up to the window and asked what I needed help with, I politely asked him the same thing. he gave me “wth” look and made a smart remark out loud “well it is a Diet Coke” just because I said that it tasted really watered down. As I picked up my order I asked a female worker for his name and she refused to give me his name and told me that they’re not allowed to. He heard me asking for his name and came to the window with a smirk on his face waving at me like he was mocking me. I asked for his name and he also refused to give. And asked why. I told him that I was going to write a review about him and the kind of customer service he provides and reminded him why . He kept smirking at me and basically told me that I was lying and that he didn’t make such remark. So I told him, it’s people like him that this business will end up losing customer, no matter how good your food is, it doesn’t give you a reason to be rude to customer. Anyways, I meant what I said. This is the first and last time we’re coming here. Even if someone ask us, we will always remember our first experience here and that’s bad and rude customer service. We won’t remember what the food taste like but we will always remember how they made us feel. I hope you start giving your workers some more training on how to provide good customer service, because we’re the one bringing in business...

Nielsen's Frozen Custard was a disappointment recently. A quick overview: this particular Nielsen's is a hole in the wall style fast food restaurant. They don't accept credit/debit cards but accept cash/check. Their prices are relatively high but I don't recognize a quality difference between the food at Nielsen's and a McDonalds or Wendy's Hamburger although the price for a double cheeseburger is about 4 dollars. (A chicken sandwich is about 5 dollars) The frozen custard is extremely good and it is healthier than ice cream although it costs around 5 dollars for a cup of frozen custard.

For me particularly I feel that the biggest letdown was the customer service and staff there. It was necessary for me to stand by the ordering area for several minutes in order to get the staff's attention. My friend needed a sharp object to cut open some oral pain killer and the scissors were in plain view so I asked if we could borrow them since my friend was in enough pain he wouldn't be able to eat until we opened the painkiller tube. The staff proceeded to hide the scissors in the back and informed me they weren't allowed to let us use the scissors. I was immensely caught off guard. My friend couldn't eat his sandwich so we had to throw it away and walk out and go to the local Smiths to buy scissors to open the pain killer and then eat somewhere else. Although asking to borrow scissors is definitely an unusual request I feel that this experience showed a massive lack of customer service and an attitude of indifference towards their customers. The entire staff there was unenthusiastic and although Nielsen's is a place I have always treasured it is very disappointing to see such poor customer service in a place that I loved so much. I know that fast food places have high turnover rates so I'm gonna come back again in a year and hope that the customer service is better than it...

I just had the worst experience I can remember at a fast food restaurant at this location. I spent over $24.00 for three concretes. I went through the drive through which went fine and was asked to pull forward into one of their designated parking spots to wait. It took almost five minutes for the first two to come out. The lady that brought them out mumbled something, handed them to me and left. They were in cups that were completely too small to hold the contents and already dripping into the cardboard cup holder. The napkins were neatly tucked into one of the cup holder's pockets and completely useless since they were already trying to soak up the melted mess. The third one didn't appear until I asked the next employee that came out about it. He at least apologized and promptly brought me another dripping mess in a cup. You know they know there is an issue when the overflowing cup is wrapped in over an inch of napkins to try to hold back melted contents from getting all over your hand. So now I get to drive home (only five minutes thankfully) holding the last dripping cup while the cup holder tries to bravely hold in the puddle of melted custard. The cup holder's valiant efforts were in vain and the passenger seat was now acting in reserve to keep the melted contents contained in a somewhat local area. When I got home I put them in the freezer and then got to spend the next twenty or so minutes cleaning my car. Shame on me for not saying something before accepting the slop, but what a crying shame the employees think this is okay and normal. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT go here. You are much better off going somewhere that understands frozen treats should be frozen. Dairy Queen Blizzards, McDonald's McFlurry, and the king of concretes at Culver's. They are much better and you will get to enjoy them rather than curse under your breath while cleaning your car. Eff...
