Oh where to begin! We went to Blue Fish last night after randomly picking it - as fate would have it, we entered a beautifully decorated, relaxing place where we spent the next couple hours! I apologize for not having all names, the hostesses who greeted us was so very attentive and accommodating as we did not have reservations, it took her only a few minutes to find a wonderful table near the music that was to play, so thank you again :). Again, the decor is a beautiful blend of textures and colors - so look around. BTW, the music was a relaxed vibe of chill 60's, 70's slower songs - just enough to enjoy in the background and still be able to chat easily. Don't forget to tip if you enjoy! The manager was also so helpful, we could see him chatting with patrons and helping clear any tables or running food - the staff seemed to have just a flow of teamwork so well done on creating such seamless effort, they all truly worked as one moving part. Now let me get to probably the best server I or we have ever experienced! I am sure all the serving staff are fabulous but Charlie was beyond measure! I literally felt like I was in his home enjoying a fantastic meal and as I said we were there hours just taking in the relaxed environment and thoroughly enjoying our time with Charlie. He was of course very attentive, but had such a warm, open and utterly charming way about him. His description of the foods and the Old Fashioned - which, by the way Mike said was the best he has had (and that's saying a lot!) were of flowy details delivered with a passion and respect for the work put into each dish. I could see that Charlie had a wonderful connection and banter with each table - he very easily makes each person feel special. I do realize I have not even touched the food yet - after all, this is why we go out to eat and thank you if you are reading this entire review..it is many sentences long in a time people prefer limited characters :) We ordered two of the speciality rolls and some sushimi - the presentation was worth posting and the unique flavors the chef put together were delicious. The fish was very fresh, so as Charlie says don't prejudge High Altitude Sushi! I doubt there is a bad choice on the menu - the Poke Bowls looked fantastic and the salt on the edamame was just enough. If undecided, I would ask your server for a suggestion. As we were leaving, it was like leaving someone's house - just with out the hugs, but believe me - if I could have I would have! Apparently The Blue Fish has a great Happy Hour, so I wouldn't be surprised if we headed over there again for some rolls and sake. I do hope you heard over to this charming restaurant - if you get Charlie you are in for a treat, but even if you do not - take you time and enjoy either the indoor or outdoor dining, sit, relax and stay a little...
Read moreI wish I could leave more stars. However, when we arrived (which was 20 minutes late from our reservation time due to traffic, though we did call and let them know this, the person on the phone said "that's fine, you'll have to wait at least 10 minutes anyway") there were no other parties waiting to be seated. I checked in with the host, likely not his actual position, and we had to wait that promised 10 minutes despite there being at least three visible high tops open on the top floor and a six top open on the main floor. It's not a large restaurant, and having hosted for one before I understand the need for a rotation of seating, however we didn't get to sit down until other parties began to flood in to the point of not being able to move around in the small waiting area.
The man broke apart the still empty six top (made of three two top tables) and we sat at one of those tables only to not be greeted by a server for at least another 10 minutes. The server for our section actually ended up taking drink orders and appetizer orders for a group who were waiting for a table and standing at the middle bar and we never interacted with her again after she gave us soy sauce upon seating. Another waitress (who appeared to have tables on all three floors) came to take our order and apologized profusely. She ended up being our waitress for the rest of the night.
The sushi was nothing to write home about. The sticky rice was dry and meant rolls fell apart, and were rolled loosely. Maybe we just happened to get the four things on the menu that weren't their best showing. To be honest, the sushi at King Soopers or Whole Foods would have been a better deal and a better meal.
When we left, the bottom floor was packed with parties waiting for a table, the people that got drinks and appetizers while waiting at the middle bar were still waiting for a table, however received excellent service as their drinks remained full and food kept coming out of the kitchen for them. High top tables upstairs were still open despite there being several other parties sitting upstairs (so the section didn't appear to be closed). Our guess is that this night they were short staffed, however it was an incredibly disappointing experience at what is supposed to be Breck's best sushi place. The highlight was our poor waitress who was overwhelmed but doing her best.
Over hyped,...
Read moreWas excited to try this restaurant based on the rave reviews, But was utterly disappointed. Placed two online to-go orders yesterday at 4:15pm for a 5pm pickup (received confirmation email stating such) and Showed up right on time. After much confusion among the staff we were told our orders were being packaged up. I must add that I was called at 4:45 to be told that one of the appetizers I had ordered ( the Kobe Mandu $14.50) was not available, and I could have the price Adjusted, or add an additional item. I chose to have additional Japanese fried chicken added to my order, priced at 9.50 on the menu. After waiting more than 20 minutes, my family members order was brought out and I was again told my order was being packaged up. I asked how long that might take and was simply told by the manager (or I would assume) that they “received a million online orders and couldn’t control that” and that it would be out shortly. After another ten minutes my order was brought out. We were told our online payment hadn’t processed and had to hand over payment for our meals again. Our card was charged for the $73 we had charged online including tip, and we were handed a receipt which prompted space for an additional tip. We were obviously upset, but left with our meals. Upon arriving to our destination maybe 5 minutes later, i examine my bag to discover my two rolls, and a box with 6 chicken nugget size pieces of “Japanese fried chicken”. I called to explain that I was to receive two orders based on the unavailable appetizer originally ordered.. and was reassured that the chicken was done by weight and my order was correct for the $24 price tag for both appetizers. I imagine the food would have been somewhat decent had the warm and cold food not been room temperature when we received it. For a restaurant in a tourist town which I would imagine should expect a large crowd. It seemed poorly organized...
