Stayed two nights in a 3-bed dorm as a budget-friendly option to visit Breck for the weekend. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and my experiences in America are always hit or miss. And I read reviews from others who clearly have unrealistic expectations of how B&Bs/hostels work.||||Fortunately, this was a good one. The dorms are mixed but the hosts were receptive and accommodating when I asked for a dorm with mostly women if at all possible. The hostel wasn't too busy at that time so it wasn't an issue. But really it was the hosts understanding why I was asking went a long way. They even texted to check in during the stay to make sure things were okay and I was comfortable.||||The location near Main Street was perfect and easy walking distance to everything downtown and some great restaurants. Parking is easy, but note you do have to move the car on Sundays. It sounds like a hassle but really isn't. ||||The beds are pretty comfortable although the one over the lockers is a bit harder on the back. The storage is plentiful and they can help loan you a lock if needed. Kitchen is small but good enough to store stuff and reheat. Bathrooms are small but good enough for what one needs.||||Wifi is strong as well in the rooms. Each bed in the dorm has a light and charging port. There is no heat or air in the rooms but the massive duvet really does a lot to keep you warm at night.||||One note: the walls are PAPER thin, so you will hear everything in the hallway and room next to you. Not a giant surprise given that this is an old home, but FYI.||||The entire place is simple but decorated nicely and really cozy.||||Also noting here that I went during summer and can't speak to a winter/ski-time experience.||||Would...
Read moreBooked this as said it had great hosts and we were expecting a warm welcome. Instead we had a WhatsApp message with the code to the front door and an envelope waiting for us with our door key! Although the office was “open” the door was firmly closed and guests had to ring the bell. Overall it lacked the personal touch and was far from the warm welcome we would have hoped for. Check out was the same impersonal process with no one to be seen. We have not seen any staff our entire stay. We had a couple of WhatsApp messages asking if we had checked in, again lacking in the personal touch as they could have knocked on the door and checked to see we were ok. Due to staff shortages there were no breakfast served instead we were offered a voucher to use in three places which we thought was ok at the time. When we arrived we had a voucher for $10 for two people. One place we could use it was take out only, the second one we just got two drinks but not enough for anything to eat! The third place the Crown much better but the voucher still wasn’t enough for two coffees a plain bagel and muffin! Not really an alternative to the breakfast usually provided. With the facilities there I don’t see why they couldn’t have offered a self service continental option as we had in another place. All chairs were up on the tables in the dining area saying due to hygiene rules it couldn’t be used so you had to use a breakfast bar if you were eating in the property. The room was very small and the ceiling fan only had two out of three arms. Overall it felt a bit dated and in need of a refresh. Probably the worst place we have stayed in our...
Read moreWe only stayed at Fireside for 2 nights, but the Peaches (who purchased the inn in April of this year) made us feel so comfortable in such a short amount of time that we actually felt a bit sad on our drive out of town. ||Breckenridge has a lovely, walkable downtown that is two short blocks from the inn. The location is great because you can walk to everything but you are far enough away that it’s not loud at night. ||Everyday Marci puts up a sign with the special breakfast she has planned for the next morning and an alternative (usually the lovely homemade granola). Before bed you sign up for what you want. The two mornings we were there we were served chorizo breakfast burritos and banana bread waffles. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. ||We stayed in the Wildflowers room which was nicely decorated, clean, and cozy. I don’t know if anything was changed from the previous owners or if the Peaches are planning to make changes, but as is the room felt very “boutique” and we enjoyed it a lot. ||Marci and Carey Peach were fantastic hosts and their daughter who also helped out was lovely to chat with. I can feel a bit shy sometimes and the idea of a true Bed and Breakfast sometimes seems intimidating to me, but at Fireside Inn I felt comfortable...
