We had a good and bad first experience. I had called to see what time dinner started and was told 3:00. We waited until then because I wanted the shrimp and grits. Upon arrival we were told dinner was not until 5:00. The owner was apologetic and stated his 12 year old daughter just started working there and was answering the phone without knowing what to say. So we were going to leave but the owner was nice to allow us to go ahead and order from the dinner menu. My shrimp and grits were wonderful without the Cajun just as requested (as good as The Goat in Pigeon Forge) and the salads were good with fresh ingredients. The draw back was no cheese and no French dressing. Dressings are limited. The fish and chips was okay. My husband said it was nothing to write home about. Only four small nuggets of fish. The manager Rachel was super nice. Our waitress was not attentive to us with making posters for the nights drinks with the owner. You should never have to ask to have drinks refilled etc. but we knew she was busy getting ready to leave. She was nice. The dessert was just dessert. It was tasty. Overall it turned out to be a pretty good experience. We probably won't make this a regular place since it was small portions for dinner size at $20+ a plate with and additional I think $7 for a house salad. In our opinion it is overpriced at $84.00 with tax for the just two of us with soda. It's worth a try to see what you think. May they have...

My partner and I found this place on a complete whim on our vacation together. The two of us had been staying in Haysi, VA for a small getaway from school and work as neither of us are from the area (I’m from Michigan, he lives in Pikeville, KY) and with limited restaurant options in the Haysi area we decided to venture out a little further to the nearest city to see what we could find. The first restaurant we chose that looked good took us all the way to Bristol but when we got there the place was packed and they were unable to seat us. Just passing by, we saw Bistro on the 6th and fell in love immediately upon walking in.

The food was one thing, (Brussels sports, beet salad, Mac and cheese and trout almondine were all to die for) with generous portions, fresh ingredients, and incredible flavor but the hospitality and the energy of this place is unmatched. Our waitress was so kind to talk to, attentive, and an all around beautiful person, who thankfully didn’t mind that we had taken up one of her tables for about 2.5 hours. And the owners of this place, we only got to meet Andrew but hearing the story of how they bought this dream into existence was a delight to listen to. If we ever find ourselves back in Bristol, this bistro will always be our first stop. Thanks again for being a fitting setting for such wonderful memories shared between my...

Absolutely a great, locally owned, healthy dining experience! My husband and I visited for a late lunch on our 32nd Anniversary. Bistro offers the freshest, farm grown veggies and the menu offers a wonderful assortment of dishes prepared with great attention to detail and interesting combinations! Service was Southern hospitality at its best with attentiveness to details. Our server knew her menu! She was able to answer all our questions. Bistro additionally offers a wonderful beer and wine selection. I had a refreshing Prosecco with our tasty, hot, sweet brussels sprouts appetizer and my husband enjoyed his Vodoo. The fried green tomatoes offering will be next on our appetizer selection! Quietly, tucked away on a downtown, Bristol side street the restaurant offers outside, euro style dining as well as a cozy, interior atmosphere that's small and doesn't have the blaring noises of chain restaurants...you can actually have a conversation without screaming! We'll be driving down from Abingdon often. The owner, Andrew M., took time out to visit our table for a friendly, southern conversation.. how often does this happen anymore?! Oh, another plus, this restaurant is located on the TN side so you're not paying those exorbitant VA Taxes that all of Bristol and Abingdon, VA have adopted within the last...

First time diner at the Bistro on 6th. The overall vibe was kinda cool and laid back, and our server, Sophie, was friendly and welcoming. The food was hit and miss. I had the champagne pork (hit), which was quite tasty, and the presentation was nice. However, my date's dish, the Bistro Burger (miss), was not what you would expect at a restaurant that presents themselves as an upscale bistro. The meat was lackluster, the toppings were ok (pickled red onions were a nice touch), and the bun, while light and airy (clearly not commercially produced), quickly became mushy and flat due to the juices from the ingredients. The fries were nicely done, crispy and hot with the just right amount of seasoning. His soup, the tomato bisque, had an outstanding flavor, but could have been smoother (for a bisque, it was too chunky). The impression we walked away with was that the person in the kitchen is more of a cook than a chef. While nothing wrong with that, it certainly did not support the upscale bistro facade. All in all, I would recommend going there for the entrees, as there is a nice selection to choose from, rather than the $17 burger.

Excellent service and expertly crafted food at an exceptionally reasonable price point. I visited Bistro on 6th with family and we were all very pleased. The atmosphere was perfect on the patio, which is close enough to State Street to be in on the action, but tucked away enough for a nice escape! The food was prepared perfectly—we ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, which were crispy and delicious with a little zip from the spicy mayo. My entree was the shrimp and grits, which I can’t say enough about. The andouille sausage paired amazingly with the creamy grits and the lemon zest elevated the shrimp (which were large and plenty) with a wonderful brightness that was the perfect finish. I will definitely be back to try out other menu items. Bistro on 6th is a must go!
