Nice little place. Took the wife and two teenagers to dinner. Was really surprised by the menu! Pleasently surprised. The wife and daughter had the steak fajitas. Came out on a sizzling platter with fresh flour and corn tortillas. The sides were on a seperate dish and the portions were reasonably sized. Not to much nor to little, just right. My son had the Jefes Burrito. Asada, grilled onion, pinto beans, rice, lettuce, pico, avocado, camarones in al Mojo de Ajo sauce. The burrito was massive! Beautifully presented with long slices of fresh avocado and several pieces of grilled shrimp on top of the burrito. Smothered in green chille sauce. The inside was packed with all the above and loaded with shrimp. Every thing was fantastic. I had the NY Strip Ranchero. My steak was cooked to perfection. A nice sear and medium rare to rare. So tender and good. The sides of mushrooms, peppers, onions and tomatoe slices went so nice with the ny strip. I ordered a side of their green chili and dipped my steak in it. The server was bright attentive and answered all our questions. She gave us time to decide and regularly checked up on us. Service was top notch. Oh almost forgot the appetizer. The aperitivos were no joke. Jalepeno poppers. The jalepenos were a redish green color. so nice. The cheese filling was excellent and the poppers were just right. No seeds but enough heat and flavor from the peppers to enjoy. We finished the meal with the Nieve Frita or fried ice cream. To die for. Massive ice cream scoop with a cocunt dipped outer layer served on a fried tortilla bowl with whipped cream. So simple yet so good. Highly reccommend this place to anyone who loves a good home cooked Mexican meal. The menu has price points for any budget and really for any taste. You can have simple "street tacos" or like us have a great shrimp and steak meal that compares to any good steak house. Dont let the building or the interior fool you. The food is excellent and the...
Read moreI stopped in to order a take out dinner for myself and my granddaughter. A Pork carnita meal with flour tortillas, bean and beef burrito side order (I guess they call it a pony), and nuggets and fries for my granddaughter. Also, a screwdriver while I waited. We spoke in detail about the order before it was placed. Sandy and Zoie (?), our regular waitresses, weren't there so I had to work with a new waitress. To start with, my new waitress didn't know how to make a screwdriver so I had to tell her. Learning curve.... I can appreciate that. When I got home and started unpacking the food, I noticed that there wasn't a burrito. I called and spoke with a man who said that she never placed a burrito on the order. If I wanted to order one, it would be an additional $11.25. I decided it wasn't worth going back, and paying more, for what I had thought that I had already paid for. We continued getting the food out and realized that I didn't get the tortillas. I called back and spoke with the waitress. She told me that she had forgotten the tortillas. Recap: I had to tell her how to make a screwdriver, didn't get the burrito that we had discussed in depth, and didn't get the tortillas, both of which I thought I had already paid for. Also, their nonchalant way of handling this whole thing was totally unprofessional. Sandy and Zoie need to be there or this restaurant will start losing a lot of their regular business. If it wasn't for my previous experience with them, I wouldn't even be giving them a 2 star rating. After this experience, if anyone is looking for a different Mexican restaurant, or just a place with really good green chili, I could make a few...
Read moreThe food here is pretty decent, although I have had better. Still, it is not a bad restaurant and I would say coming here was a good experience. I would recommend checking out El Caporal if you have time which is a few minutes from this place, as I think they have better food, but Los Compas is also open several hours before them so it's situation dependent.
Looking at other people's pictures, I feel like this place serves complimentary chips and salsa although I didn't get any. I did go early in the morning, so it is possible that if they do this it starts at lunchtime.
The ground beef taco shell was extremely soggy on the bottom side. This is not the end of the world as it is pretty common in my experience, but the meat didn't have much flavor. The shredded beef taco had more flavor than the ground beef, but overall it was still just ok. I wouldn't recommend getting it.
The carne asada quesadilla was good. The cheese in all three items I got stood out to me for some reason. I don't know if they use special cheese, but I did categorize it as above average. Like the tacos, the quesadilla bottom and even part of the top was a little soggy. Most quesadillas come with sour cream instead of pico de gallo, but I don't care much for sour cream so I usually sub it for pico. If you get a standard quesadilla I don't think you will have this problem, but I would recommend subbing it out here as the blend they put on top of the quesadilla was...
