I'd driven past this place hundreds of times, and decided to try it. Having never had Salvadoreño food, I had no idea what to expect. I ordered the Horchata, which differs from the Mexican variety, and was very pleased with its coffee-chocolate flavor. The body of it also has a thicker, milkier texture. I also ordered a selection of the different pupusas, and received what initially appeared to be some tortillas. I had ordered ones with beans, cheese, and other things. Not seeing the toppings I was a bit concerned; however that was merely a consequence of my own ignorance. I bit into one... Everything is inside what appears to just be a fat tortilla. This keeps it piping hot. They're also supplied with a salad or coleslaw type thing. Being unsure, I just tossed that on top with some salsa, and folded it like a taco. They were phenomenal. On another trip I tried their tamales. These too differ from the Mexican variety; they're wrapped in a banana leaf instead of a corn husk, as well as containing some vegetables. Also, the character of the meat differs in that it's more of a stewed meat. The masa dough tends to be thicker and crumblier. I ordered all these items again on subsequent trips, and would recommend this place. There are also other items on the menu I have not yet tried, but I expect they're just as good as what I've...
Read moreMy bro-in-law is from El Salvador and my sister took me here to let me try a genuine papusa. I was expecting a Colombian cheese inside of a corn based flour type of food - good but not terribly rare or hard to find. Boy, was I in for an Excellent Surprise!! This is like a pancake infused with your choice of vegetable or meat along with some cheese if you want!! The absolute absence of excess grease or oil from the papusa is what really stands out according to my sister who has been to El Salvador many many times with her husband. I have eaten in Colombia, Dominican Republic and even Chile, but these papusas are OFF the CHAIN!!! My sister introduced me to Oscar the owner/head chef and great guy!! I ate so many of my familiar dishes, like platanos, yucca, huevos revueltos, I barely managed to try the flan for dessert! Flan was different in texture and taste, not what I was expecting but otherwise all was far too good that I cancelled the pre-arranged soft ice-cream cone I had asked for before eating here!! All must try these!! They should...
Read moreThe service is so bad here. It’s never a good energy. It doesn’t feel welcoming. Just buy and go. There is no connection with the customers. Sad because it wasn’t like that before. . So it kinda puts you in a bad mood too when they talk to you like they don’t even want you to be there. I’m Salvadoreña and there is not a lot of our culture here in Idaho. Finding this place was exciting, connect with my people. Never been to a restaurant that doesn’t have knife available. Not everyone enjoys eating their pupusa with there fingers. If that’s the plan at least give me more napkins. I ate there but I also order Togo and it’s been multiple times that they never give me salsa or curtido to go. We are always craving platanos and they never have them or the platanos aren’t good. The quesadilla (sweet bread) is not real. Taste like a basic pastry I can buy at the panaderia. They have messed with the recipe Delicious cheese pupusas, but I order beans and cheese. The amount of beans they put is a joke. It doesn’t look or taste like...
