My wife and I spend a great deal of money eating out several times a week. Unfortunately, we won’t be going back to Casa Anejo after our experience today. We noticed the restaurant several days ago and decided to stop in for the first time on Sunday around 3:45pm. We were greeted by absolutely the loudest music we have ever heard coming from a restaurant. The temperature inside was freezing cold since the roll-up doors were wide open with the temperature outside in the 40s. We were ready to leave. Staff immediately apologized explaining that the noise was due to a party that was supposed to have wrapped up at 3:00pm. A DJ had the music cranked up to the max. We were encouraged to come in as the party was breaking up, the roll-up doors would be closing and the music dialed down. While the roll-up doors did eventually close, the party continued. After 30 minutes, the music was brought down to a reasonable volume. A family with young children was at the next table. Their young son had his hands over his ears as the music was deafening. A couple sat near us and were visibly dismayed by the uncomfortable atmosphere. The service was very poor. I was brought the wrong entree which had to be taken back. We had to ask for utensils more than once; I eventually walked up to the bar to get a fork for my wife whose food was getting cold as I waited for my replacement entree. The server told my wife that a particular dish wasn’t spicy; it was. Wait staff never refilled our water; never came back on their own initiative. We had to track staff down each time. When we requested our check it took forever before someone came over with the payment device. It was one of those occasions when we felt like we were being ignored despite being polite and appreciative. I can tell that this place has good food but first impressions are very important; my wife is totally turned off to this restaurant and will never return. Staff acknowledged the noise and confusion but did nothing to compensate for an extremely poor dining experience. We enjoy all types of restaurants, some with noisy environments, but this was over the top. I honestly don’t think they care if we ever come back. This restaurant is not inexpensive; we can’t risk another visit if they can’t guarantee a positive...
Read moreI found this little gem while looking for a place to enjoy our 29th wedding anniversary. We are from California recently moved here and have had our share of flavorless, or canned "Mexican dinners" while here in Idaho so if you are interested in one of those types of places, please do not go here. I met a gentleman leaving Casa Anejo with one of their shirts on and I asked him how their food was. He said he worked there and was off the clock and could honestly give his opinion of the food and he said "It is really good and I recommend it". I made reservations for my wife and I here at Casa Anejo. I had another place picked out but they had canceled on us so luckily I found this Casa Anejo. You walk into an open dining atmosphere with their bar at the back center of the room. Seating is on the side and large tables are in the middle of the room. We were seated promptly and waited on by a pleasant waitress right away. Service was great and what you would expect from a well-run establishment. We ordered (attached photos) the Sweet Corn Guacamole (I absolutely recommend this when dining there or you will miss out on a great take on fresh guacamole) as well as the flavorful salsa, a Smoked mezcal margarita brought under glass and filled with smoke. The drink was well presented and tasted just as good. For dinner, we ordered the Tri-Color Asada Burrito (all steak) and a Plain Bean and Cheese Burrito with a side of Fries. Both dishes filled the plate. From start to finish you could tell this was made fresh and with real spices and ingredients that reminded us of some great places in California we have visited. The fries were crispy and had great flavor as well. After dinner, the staff brought out a nice little dessert to help us celebrate our 29th. The owner stopped by to pay us a visit at the table and congratulate us as well. He shared how they obtain all their ingredients locally including their beef. Compliments to Casa Anejo for having a great-tasting Mexican-style restaurant. Diner is not inexpensive, however, but if you want great-tasting food, you will not be...
Read moreLet me start by saying my husband and I have been to Casa Añejo one time before when they had barely opened. We weren’t very impressed with the food but they were new and had said we’d try it again after a while. My husband was born and raised in Caldwell, so naturally we love to spend our money and time in Caldwell. Specifically around the beautiful downtown area.
We decided to try it again today. We walked in around 11:50am. They opened at 11. We were happy they weren’t busy. We were told we could seat ourselves. We sat and weren’t greeted for a while. When the young lady came over we had already decided what we wanted to order and thought we should do it right away since it took forever to just be greeted. She would only take orders for alcoholic beverages for some reason. So I ordered a drink… we asked for waters as well. Probably another 10-15 mins went by and another waitress came by she asked if we’d been helped we said yes but we were ready to order. She took our appetizer order and said she’d be back to take our food order. We asked for water again and nothing. Our app came out and I still hadn’t received my drink from the bar. They had forgotten. A man came over and asked if we’d been helped I told him I had a drink that hasn’t come out and we wanted to order food. He took our order and went to make my drink. Food came out and it was very small for the price. We had to ask for water again. The girl was kind of rude when I asked this time. It all tasted just fine though.
About half way through all of this I told my husband their Instagram seems different than this, very customer oriented… I told him I’m just going to message their Instagram account and let them know our experience because I hate leaving bad reviews. Then as our experience just got worse and worse I had to leave a review. We decided to spend our money and free Saturday at Casa Añeja and felt...
