Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Cape Coral

Steak'n Shake, Pine Island Rd., Cape Coral, Fl., Here is chatter and my 2 cents on the food.

Chit chat...When I was in high school Steak'n Shake was the chic place to go for a date. It had waitresses, it was expensive and had good burgers. I never ed liked the thin french fries.

Now it is one of the cheapest burger joints with so-so servers.

I came here to get my free birthday milk shake. Its never free. you buy something to get it. I got the very strawberry shake. Pretty good.

I order the REALLY big cola. About 32 ounces for a buck, see pic.

I tried the chili for the first time. Just mediocre and plain. The onion rings. OKay.

A double cheese burger with those awful thin fries...$4....The burger taste like all the other fast food joints except maybe *urger King.

What going for them is they are cheaper than all the others...plus you can get loads of coupons for variation of the burgers.

I know from intuition the servers must be paid squat. When I left a tip the were excited.

So if you are on the cheap this is a good place to go.

October 2017 Steak & Shake, Pine Island Rd., Cape Coral, Fl., Here is chatter and my 2 cents on the food. I have written 550 + reviews and out of those only 2... I did not leave any tip. I arrived at 1115 AM. I was promptly seated. I told my server I'd like coffee with cream. Coffee delivered. Luke warm. As I peruse around I counted 3 servers and 6 tables( included mine) only 1 or 2 patrons at each. ( see pics) 16 minutes later,( yes I counted) a server brought me my order. The top of the line burger, fries & onion rings. I was waiting for more coffee. 19 minutes I got some. I reached for the mustard & ketchup squeeze bottles. BOTH of the tips were DRIED shut. My burger was luke warm and onions rings a bit warmers. Bad tasting coffee though hot the second time. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. NO TIP.

Well this was the first time my wife has ever been to a Steak & Shake. She had a burger with the egg on top. Tasty .Also enjoyed the unique thin fries. Me the classic triple burger dragged through the garden... GOOD but oohh so messy. mmmmmmm :-) I liked it. . The only issue was the speed. A check of time stamp , the order was made at 1034 am. We did not receive our order until 1055 am. A bit long. The place was MAYBE half full. Our server Krisiti did...

The food was ok. We are inside, and we're shocked that they no longer have wait staff! There were two kiosks that could use some customer service help. We had three people type in their orders, and when the total came up, it was way more money than it should be.

Come to find out, a couple of us had tapped an item more than once (8 times??) And we hadn't noticed it on the list. I'm pretty sure it's because it only shows one item when you're ordering, even if you tap it several times.

The worst part was, once you got to the total owed, you COULDN'T CHANGE YOUR ORDER, so we had to delete it and start over! It was a bit easier the second time, but not easy by any means. There's no sign that shows what order is up, so if you have hearing issues (like I do), you're in for a tough time.

One last thing. If you suspect you're going to need a to-go box, pick it up when you get your food. We had to stand up there for several minutes just to tell someone we needed one.

All in all, you go to Steak and Shake for the food, but I never realized how much I went there to sit and be waited on by pleasant people who always smiled and made you feel important.

The staff now seemed non-existant, in that they were behind a counter that seemed to make the customers invisible unless they wanted to give us our order. I'm unsure if they are overworked, stressed, overwhelmed, or just plain uninterested. I'm hoping they are new at the job and just learning. If not, I might just go through the drive-through and pick up my food...

Worst breakfast experience. We were told we were waiting on fresh coffee, less than one minute later another server is walkin around the floor typing of other people's coffees. When we finally catch her attention, she tells or server that "table 13 is waiting on two coffees". We heard our server day, that she told us we had to wait on coffee to be made. The server with the coffee pot told her "but I have some right here" our server replied it's OK, They can wait. Meanwhile our server continue to run refills of soda out one by one to another table. Roughly 3-4 minutes later, our server shows up with coffee. OK cool. We order. My pancakes come out on a plate that is CLEARLY dirty. Like gross dirty. I immediately, kindly, ask for a new order told her that I'm a former restaurant manager and I understand these things happen. No worries. 15 minutes later my new order of pancakes arrive!!! I'm over the experience at this point. We had also had an order of toast that took over 15minutes to receive. I NEVER complain or say anything about restaurant experiences, let alone write a review. I've been in the restaurant/bar industry for over 10 years. That gives you an idea of how bad this experience was. And when I had brought my unhappiness to the attention of the lady cashing out our check... She did nothing but take an order of biscuits and gravy off. Super unhappy and will never return there for breakfast. However, the steakburgers cannot be beat. One of my favs. And I'll deal with a bad...
