Birrieria Don Jose — Restaurant in Chandler

Maybe we came on an off day, but their consomé was disappointingly bland. I was pretty excited to try Don Jose after seeing the good reviews, but my expectations were higher than the food quality.

Also disappointing was how little consomé came with my greasy quesabirria tacos. Then again, considering how watered down and blah it was, I suppose I wasn’t missing all that much. Bizarrely, the consomé had a bunch of raw onions settled at the bottom of the cup, which makes me wonder if the B team was working today and cutting corners.

The place is super clean, the staff were great, and the salsa bar was pretty solid, although none of the salsas really jumped out at me. Everything really was just sort of forgettable.

Except for the flatulence. Oh. My. God. I haven’t had gas this bad in a long, looooong time. And I didn’t eat any beans! Super confused right now, smelling the same smells from my bum that I smelled in the restaurant, like cebolla and cilantro and carne all together. Freaking loco, man.

Alas, the search for the best birria in Arizona continues. Sorry Don Jose, yours didn’t make the cut....

I have been everywhere looking for the best birria tacos and I think I have found them! To make it even better its not very far of a drive for me. Everything here is friggin delicious 😋 It's hard not to just keep ordering more things. My favorite is the #4 the Quesabirria tacos 🌮 OMFG these things are so good and they also come with consomme (au-jus) that has Cilantro and onions in it. I'm getting hungrier for more just thinking about. You dip the tacos in it and I even like to take a lil sip of it after I take a bite =) There is a nice lil salsa bar inside that has at least 4 different salsas that are all delicious. The pickled carrots and onions, jalapeños, fresh sliced cucumbers and radishes too. It's very nice and clean inside and the customer service is awesome. There is also a wide variety of deserts to choose from and the Horchata tastes like it is definitely homemade 😋. You will not be disappointed coming here. Food was decent back in the day, very expensive especially if you're paying with card, just came in the other day, my favorite salsa the guac salsa tasted bland and different. When I go in, I get the same exact thing, a Carne Asada taco plate. I came in and accidentally said my order wrong. I said that I wanted a combo plate. First of all my tacos were deconstructed. Who the hell orders a deconstructed taco. I was very upset when it came out, and my girlfriend had the courage to go up to her and ask what this was all about because I order the same thing every single time. The lady responded very very rudely and told me that what I received was what I ordered and refused to remake my food. $18 and I didn't even touch it. She really could've taken that meat and remade my freaking tacos. Like I said expensive, questionable staff, parking is very limited and complicated.
