Before Popeyes came into my life as a child, fast food fried chicken began and stopped at Church’s. It was the pinnacle. As a young man, it was a late night routine post inebriated night of shenanigans. They don’t have Church’s in the NY metro area anymore. So, when we drove past this spot from the airport on my first day in this fine city, I almost cried. Three days later, I made the pilgrimage. The two ladies who helped me were both nice and indifferent. I used to work in a fried chicken spot so I know what they’re going through. They’re doing their best with what they have. Eating this sober probably was my first mistake. Nothing was as good as I remembered. Had the recipe changed ? Is it the grease ? Are they not following protocol? Has my palate changed? Maybe all of the above. The okra is not the okra of my youth. Tears. The chicken is greasy, not spicy and under seasoned. It also looked and tasted of lower quality. Sometimes, the joys and dreams from our youth should not be revisited, because it not only isn’t the same anymore, it’s disappointing personified. Or- just come here after bar closes. Oh wait, they close at 9. Nvm.

All I can say is... It's Church's. I went in to try the fish strips. Unfortunately, they are not serving them anymore. I was going through the drive-thru but, was told to come in. I don't know what was going on because, No more than 5 minutes later another car came through and was served. Anyway, I ordered a 2pc meal with Mashed potatoes. As Always church's chicken is extremely fatty and sticky as though it's not cleaned. To be honest, I just think that's Church's trademark because, in Texas, Louisiana and Alabama is the same thing. Staff didn't seem to motivated to be there. This is a To-Go location, there is absolutely not one chair in this place. With that being said, the drive- thru should never be closed. Igot a feeling I was over charged because there was a 2pc promotional being advertised. I didn't feel like making a big deal about it. The best part about this experience was they were fast compared to other Church's Chickens.

Last month I received a coupon to buy food at Church’s Chicken in Charleston, so that night when I was on Sam Rittenburg Blvd I Stopped to get chicken for dinner . I was 6:30 pm . The sign out front said “open until 7:00pm” . I waited 5 minutes for someone to yell through the speaker “we’re closed!” . I thought that was really bad business. Tonight, I went to the one on Meeting Street (3blocks from my home). My wife was driving . It was 6:45. A man one on a bicycle cut in front of us . The person. On the loudspeaker said “ I’ll be with you in a minute”. We Waited 5 minutes and the person (a woman)said , “I’m sorry we just sold our last 3 pieces of chicken” my wife said “well it would’ve been nice if you had just said that to begin with” The women acted like she enjoyed treating us that way and said “bye, now you have a nice night” All I could think was “God Bless You, cause I won’t” . These folks are making money in spite of themselves. I’m giving up trying to buy...
