As a person who goes to Uptown Social often living in Charleston as a graduate student, I am very saddened to write this review. My best friend's sister was visiting, and she was excited to go here. It started off as a fun night, with attentive service from the bartenders. Uptown usually gets pretty crowded, this might be the worst I have ever seen it. I have been here during every season of the year, but this felt like a legitimate safety issue. My friend had a drink thrown in her face trying to move through the crowd. My best friend's sister had her fingers grabbed by someone who rudely spilled her own drink on her, and all over the floor. Lastly, my boyfriend was punched in the face by a man in the crowd. People were bumping into each other all night, which is normal for an extremely crowded venue. However, when my boyfriend tried to create space for our friend group and to ensure people were not touching me/bumping into me he was punched in the face. Drunk misunderstandings happen all the time, this man appeared to be on the more sober side. As a result, of this punch my boyfriend hit the back of his head on part of the stage knocking him unconscious for at least a minute. Security came over and their attempts to wake him worked (they were not really gentle about it). This could have been way worse. What upset me the most about the situation is what happened afterwards. First off, the security guard that was right there in front of the situation did not contribute what he witnessed when we went outside. The security guards talked to the man and his friend group who punched my boyfriend first, asking their side of the story. They came over next, asked my boyfriend what happened when he had clearly just been punched in the face and hit his head on the stage. His memory was fuzzy as to how it escalated this far. They NEVER asked me (I witnessed the incident), which was mind boggling. One side was clearly heard and prioritized. This does not sound fair to me. Because of the lack of clarity about the incident, the man could not be banned. Security let the man back into the bar immediately. I have NEVER seen a bar following an altercation let the party who committed battery back in. Typically, one or both parties are removed from the bar to prevent further problems. I was mind blown that security allowed this and ignored other problems occurring in the bar. We know this is a big venue, with a big crowd, but security and the venue as a whole has an obligation to keep it safe. After this experience, I am concerned that this is not a priority for customers. ...
Read moreUsually have a great time here. I even have worked alongside some of the staff during my internship last semester with the Boston Beer Company, sampling within their facilities. Majority of staff is great…but this place for real needs to GET A GRIP. The other night, one particular staff member ruined me and about 20 other people I know, whole outlook on Uptown and even had to file a police report, not to mention the immense amounts of underage kids there. A man had slapped my girlfriend while their friend also tripped her at the same time… for no given reason, claiming he thought it was his friend…. In any situation, a man should NEVER put their hands on a woman. We were nice about it and asked for an apology. That was too much to ask for I guess from this group of CHILDREN. A girl proceeded to slap me and rip my belongings off my head, pulling my hair for what reason… idk the friend group can’t handle saying apologies. I of course defended myself immediately after she went after me. My boyfriend, who was closing out his tab… had NOTHING to do with the situation nor was even near it, saw the situation and we were on our way out leaving. We wanted no more problems and we’re being mature by leaving. My boyfriend was then out of nowhere choked and aggressively thrown into the crowd by the bouncer. WE WERE LEAVING. After absurdly tossing my boyfriend to the floor he then grabbed his neck once again and had dragged him all the way downstairs and outside without letting go, having him unable to breathe and left marks on his throat from how hard he had grabbed him. This situation is beyond unjustified and for now would like to warn anyone who goes into Uptown that you might get choked out by the bouncer for just being there. Awful to be hiring/have that type of person within your staff. EXTREMELY ineffective security team if you are throwing out someone who isn’t making a problem and keeping those who are in the facility. I hope Uptown has the logic to take action about this situation and get rid of the threat of assault to...
Read moreUptown Social created the night of our dreams!! They got it going on!!
We recently hosted a micro wedding reception dinner at Uptown Social in the Hudson Room. This room was the perfect size for our 20 guests with plenty of room for a buffet and personal bar. When planning our event, we communicated with Niki and Lindsey. They were quick to respond over email, a pleasure to talk with over the phone, and they took the time to throughly answer our many questions! We selected several appetizers and the Taco Bar option for our guests. The food was delicious! We also had a variety of mini desserts and a lovely decorated wedding cake that were equally amazing!
Uptown Social is definitely known for their fun nightlife atmosphere. But even while catering to their many other patrons in the downstairs restaurant, we still felt like their top priority! The professionalism this team exhibits is unmatched. Our day-of planner, Anna, assisted with any last minute changes and made sure our decorations were perfectly placed! Staff was always available to refill drinks or take away empty trays.
After our formal reservation in the Hudson Room ended for the night, our guests headed right out to the dance floor!! Meanwhile, Uptown Social’s team carefully packed up all our leftover food and decorations to be brought home. We had a great choice of music for the night between the DJ preforming upstairs to the band on the main floor. We enjoyed ourselves all night!
Our guests continue to compliment the quality of their experience with Uptown Social. We cannot thank you...
