To Bree, the most amazing waitress!
The Redeye Diner is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite late-night spots in Charlotte, and that’s saying something because this city has a lot to offer. I’ve been coming here for a while now, but there’s one particular night that stands out as an otherworldly experience—and it’s all thanks to you. Picture this: my buddies and I were on cloud nine after the Charlotte Hornets finally broke their losing streak with a win against the Phoenix Suns. It felt like the whole city was buzzing, and we wanted to celebrate in true Brandon Miller fashion—with a feast. The name Redeye Diner was thrown out, and it was an instant unanimous decision. Now, we’re not exactly a small crew. There were about 16 of us, a rambunctious group of hungry college students, and I’m sure most waitstaff would’ve taken one look at us and immediately prayed for patience. But not you, Bree. You stepped up to the challenge and turned what could’ve been chaos into pure magic. From the moment you walked up to our table, you were the picture of grace under pressure. My friends, bless them, were their usual goofy, indecisive selves during the ordering process—dilly-dallying, cracking jokes, and just generally being the group of overgrown kids we are. But you didn’t just tolerate us; you embraced the energy like an old friend. You laughed along, helped us navigate the menu, and made the whole process feel effortless. And then, when the food came, you didn’t just stop there. You were quick to check in, always one step ahead of our requests, and made sure everything was absolutely perfect. The way you managed to keep things moving smoothly, slicing through the chaos with kindness and joy, was nothing short of a miracle. You even handled the mountain of separate checks like it was nothing, all while keeping that warm, genuine smile. Bree, you didn’t just serve us food that night—you gave us a memory, one we’ll carry with us for a long time. That night, thanks to you, wasn’t just about a Hornets win or good food. It was about feeling truly cared for and creating a little moment of connection that made Charlotte feel even more like home. Thank you for being such a bright light in the middle of the night. You didn’t just end our night on a high note—you turned it into something unforgettable. If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that I’ll be back to Redeye Diner, and I’ll be hoping to see you again.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Bree.
As for the food, I do have a few notes to share. While the Redeye Diner has a lot of great options, I’d steer clear of the Philly cheesesteak. The bread tends to be overcooked, leaving it hard, crunchy, and sometimes a bit shrunken, which can be a letdown. That being said, if you’re a breakfast lover like me, you’re in for a treat. The breakfast platters are easily the best bang for your buck. They’re hearty, satisfying, and everything you’d want from a late-night breakfast feast. If you love breakfast food, you’ll love the...
Read moreMy partner and I visited Red Eye Diner to eat, drink, and get some work done on our laptops—something we’ve done countless times both together and individually. We’ve been loyal customers, on a first-name basis with many staff members, and we always tip generously. In the past, we’ve had servers switch mid-shift without issue.
Today, however, was a completely different story. Our server informed us that their manager refused to serve us any further, which is utterly disgraceful. My tab was already over $100, and I was actively trying to order more food and drinks. To discover that this passive-aggressive manager, Shelly, made the decision to cut us off without explanation is beyond insulting—it reeks of racial discrimination. When I requested to speak with her through our server, she outright refused to address me, reflecting poor leadership and communication skills.
Since we were forced to leave, we had to go buy food and drinks elsewhere, which only added to the frustration. What’s most disappointing is how avoidable this situation was. We are accommodating as customers and would have gladly moved to another section to allow the staff to prepare for their reservation for a party of 20. Shelly’s inability to communicate or problem-solve effectively not only caused unnecessary conflict but also demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism.
As a leader in my day-to-day life, I regularly manage complex situations, establish effective communication across multiple channels, and multitask to meet business needs. I’d suggest that Eddie invest in some hands-on leadership training for all managers, starting with Shelly. For a place where I’ve spent hundreds of dollars and tipped generously, this treatment is infuriating, insulting, and entirely unacceptable. This establishment should be ashamed of how loyal customers...
Read moreThe absolute worst service I’ve received in a long time! Our server has only been employed there 3 days and had no clue of what to do. We were apart of a large party of 12 to 15 and they left her ALONE to service the party on her own. Four of the folks with us who sat at an adjacent table had their order taken and were served before we even had the chance to place our order. AGAIN, we were all together. Twenty minutes after they received their food, she finally came to take our food orders. Thirty minutes later, 3 other members of our party arrived who sat at an adjacent table came in, place their order and received their food and had began eating. We STILL DID NOT RECEIVE OUR FOOD. An HOUR had passed since we were waiting to place our order and get our food. NO ONE offered to assist her! There were 2 children and 6 adults at our table….we left because by this time EVERYONE AROUND US WAS EATING EXCEPT US!!!! This was a bad experience for me and my family as well as the 3 day old employee who was VERY overwhelmed by the size of our party. The other employees sat around and watched all this play out. I even asked a pregnant employee if she could take our order and she said “she’ll help you in a minute.” Customer service is obsolete these days and RED EYE DINER is a TRUE example of what great customer...
