It is the Shittiest transportation service ever created... I can't understand how they stay in business, or let alone in service. The buses are never on time, the majority of them are nasty on the inside with warned down old seats with gum on it, garbage left all over. (Especially at nights) Its very obviously that the seats are years & years old. The bus drivers are never held accountable for their constant latenesses, & the train services don't correlate with late buses or late train times in a timely manner. So it's very inconvenient to take the bus or light rail at night. If you're from a city where you have excellent transportation services you will be in complete shocked & disappointed for this terrible transportation services, this farce of a bus or train system in Charlotte NC that it's supposedly supposed to be the life line of the city. It's so very obvious that they have terrible communication between the drivers, dispatchers, train conductors & the paying customers that are fed up with your terrible ass service. It's all screwed up from the top of the companies to the bottom of it. So if the train is late, the buses will never wait for the late train & vice versa. People who paid their hard earned money had to sit there and wait for the next bus for the next 30 minutes to the next hour, so basically you have to end up getting there an hour maybe two hours earlier than the time you actually need to take it. Especially at night where they don't care about people who works hard & is tired coming off from work. Where's the convenience in using this service? It's a completely unfathomably, ridiculously broken system. I mean you're in the service of business for transportation services. That should be your number one concern when it comes to the customers who pays their hard earned money for a terrible service/ product of a so called transportation company, but of course CATS Bus service and LYNX light rail services screw that up royally on a daily basis, & (Especially at nights) because the system is so inconsistent, lopsided, & poorly managed. Unfortunately for Charlotteteens don't have any other choice but to use this terrible service, since there's no another alternative service to choose from other than CATS or LYNX service. But my suggestion for all who is unhappy with the service is to save all your pennies that you're throwing at this terrible bus and train service and get a car. Anyone who uses this terrible service would better off relying on a car that's halfway working, or even halfway broken than relying on this half assed broken down ineffective transportation system, that's pretending to be an effective, communicative transportation service model. & To all who is moving to Charlotte make sure you have a car when you move here, this service is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moremost of the drivers are rude and take their job seriously. They want you to have the full $2.20. There are some that will let you get away if you don't have enough $. Some of them are nice. Their passes are expensive and don't provide any discount. UNCC folks get to ride for free by showing their id. Anyways if you miss your bus you have to wait for the next one, they can't pick up passengers once they leave. Don't even bother dealing with the sunday schedule because if the bus pulls into the transit center you will miss your transfer route and will have to wait for the next bus. The restrooms are horrible I wouldn't recommend using it unless if its an emergency. The booth is horrible too its only at the transit center they use to have one on JW Clay but they closed it because no one was purchasing tickets from there. The CATS bod never respond or in a bad attitude when asking them about a bus that doesn't show up. Watch out for the security they take their job seriously don't fight or get angry they will have you in handcuffs. I lost my umbrella after telling it to the operator and told to communications my umbrella wasn't turn into lost and found their customer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe bus is well-run but slow. Each trip is $2.20 with a 2-hour transfer window. Express buses are $4.40. You can get weekly or ten ride passes at Food Lion and other grocery stores. There is also a park and ride pass which you must purchase at the main downtown bus station. Drivers are much more helpful than in my native Chicago. That being said, the schedules generally do not get placed in the rack on the bus. Check online, at a library, or in a schedule rack at a major downtown building if you want a paper schedule to hold. There does not seem to be any sort of bus tracking by GPS for patrons to see when the bus is coming. Be careful if you expect to walk anyplace from a bus stop, sidewalks are considered optional in much of the outer reaches of Mecklenburg County. There is a pretty good park and ride system, although expensive. Amtrak and Greyhound are both on city bus lines. They are definitely not near the central bus station. Maps of the whole system are hard to find, except online. Avoid bus route 11 North Tryon until the light rail system is complete, that bus is...
