Ruby Sunshine — Restaurant in Chattanooga

We decided to spend our first morning in Chatt with breakfast at Ruby Sunshine. I haven’t had it before, but was familiar with the name from when I lived in Nashville. We walked from the Read House with our dog which was less than a mile walk. When we got there, the host seated us and our dog on the patio. It was a hot day getting to 95+ (luckily it was still early around 8am) but they didn’t turn the fans in the patio on which we found odd and kind of uninviting. For preface, the restaurant was not busy as it was Friday morning so most people were at work. There were maybe 2-3 other guests inside. No one else on the patio. We sat on the patio in the heat for probably 15 minutes and not a single person came to talk with us. We made eye contact with multiple employees through the bar window but they purposefully ignored us. Maybe they didn’t want to come out in the heat…but it’s not like they had to stay there they just had to take our order and go back in. We almost left. A dark skinned girl with short hair came outside with a spray bottle and wiped down a few tables without looking at us and then walked back inside. Maybe 5 minutes later, the host walked another couple outside to sit. Continue sitting and another waitress, Cassie, came out with waters and asked if anyone had spoken with us. We said no and she apologized profusely. We’re not sure if she was coming out to help the others just sat and noticed us sitting there or if she saw us through the window while her coworkers ignored us. She was quick and friendly and the only person who saved our terrible start of this experience at Ruby Sunshine. When she went back inside with our drink order, we saw her immediately go and speak with her coworkers looking pretty irritated about it. We aren’t sure if she was a manager here, but if not she honestly should be as she handled this situation perfectly. A few minutes later, the same dark skinned girl who ignored us previously came out to take the other couples order looking very irritated. Cassie was quick at getting our order in and speaking with us consistently to check in on our experiences after this. When we got our food and drinks - it was DELICIOUS. The spiced vanilla iced latte was phenomenal as well as the stuffed French toast. My boyfriend had the omelet with chorizo and pico plus potatoes and he loved it as well. The food was the other savior of this place, however, I don’t think we’d ever return if it wasn’t for Cassie. She was a great server and a true team leader. If we come back to Chatt and want breakfast, we’ll come back for great food and hopefully encounter her wonderful attitude again and not have to worry about our terrible experience in the beginning of sitting in the heat with no water or fans while...

Update 9/27/25 Just spent over $30 for my door dashed white chocolate bread pudding pancakes & just once, could they be consistent with sending my order how its supposed to come. If I didnt know any better, they ran out of batter and threw white chips in regular pancakes.

Update 2025 Ordered cinnamon roll pancakes....no cinnamon, no roll, just plain pancakes

IF YOU WANT TO EAT HERE... YOU BETTER BE READY TO WORK, WAIT & WORK SOME MORE FOR IT. It sincerely pains me to give em such a low score but get this mess....1st issue....cant get any food deliverer to bring this restaurantout to Middle Valley, have to go the 20-30 trip in person...they don't have the ONLY dish I ever order on the online ordering site, white choc.bread Pudding Pancakes & you aren't able to order anything by phone, what's a girl to do? This time I try ordering another item (pig candy) thinking like other sites, it'll give an option at the end of my order to type something I need them to know regarding my order....well it doesn't, order goes through even though now I still have to drive all the way downtown, find a parking place somewhere bc they have no parking, go in, wait in line (crowded as a night club on Saturday night) then explain mys3lf to host who is useless just to get sent to the bar where only one busy person barely has a minute to acknowledge you, place a 2nd order for my Pancakes (now iv tipped twice!), wait bk in my car while I take up the delivery spot as does every customer trying to pick up their food, go back in after good 30minutes (pig candy is ice cold now), single order is not ready still, stand & wait at bar, no one asks if they can at least offer a beverage, food finally comes out bc the bartender tells host to go check on it, she brings it out, finally leave. This is absurd. There's zero chanc3 of reach8ng a human via phone & when they used to answer, they'd just tell you rudely you couldn't order via phone. I love their food but everything else is the most inconvenient iv ever experienced. Shame...Great great food, I hate to miss out on that but guess I will. i’ve never been here before and was eager to come here bc the employees talked it up so much. booze for breakfast sure sounds great.

I walked in. I was not greeted by anyone. I sat at the bar. I put my ID on the bar. waited to finally be acknowledged

I had to ask for a menu.

Bartenders name is Brittany. Not sure she’s ever made a real drink in her life .

I asked for a margarita before even being handed a menu. she said good morning margarita thought it was a term for being nice

i went to bathroom which stunk of old moldy mop water and returned to a grapefruit colored drink.

i asked why it was pink she said they used blood juice must be the morning margarita i see now i have a menu that wasn’t explained when i asked for margarita that theirs were different

i didn’t ask for a tequila sunrise just a margarita so there’s that

she did ask if i liked it i said No a man came and asked me if i wanted something different i said no i just didn’t expect oj in my drink it’s fine, he continued to say well there is oj in a texas margarita. seriously? i didn’t say anything but dang we are in Tn a dang pink oj drink here is a tequila sunrise

i get my food 2eggs over easy turkey sausage and toast food was hot and decent

i asked for bloody mary it was so bad i couldn’t drink it. and the garnish on top with lime lemon and olive looked like it’d been sitting dry for days yuck

then i had to listen to brittany and some other servers complaining about their personal bs

so i couldn’t even drink my crappy drink i left it full bill was $40 i tipped $10 cause im a server and maybe B was having a bad day maybe she doesn’t like her job ? idk

it wasn’t welcoming clean or satisfying to the pallet...
