Hands down the worst experience I've ever had from a black owned restaurant in Chicago. I came with my girlfriend last Sunday to celebrate the opening weekend in South Loop. I make it a point of emphasis every time I go out to eat to support locally black owned restaurants. And majority of my experiences eating out has been amazing in this city. Chicago has a thriving black culture for food and it's truly a foodie city with great service. I love the location in Lincoln Park & so I thought the quality of that location would exist at this new location in South Loop. Sadly this was not the case. After we were seated, we got our waters, with no straws. After a few minutes, the waiter told us about the specials that they were doing with the expresso martini french toast & the jerk chicken omelette. I order those 2 things along with my girls order of the executive brisket hash with a medium fried egg, french latte, cappuccino, & apple juice. So 30 mins + has gone by, we still haven't gotten the cappuccino or the french latte or the apple juice. We only had 1 refill of the water at this point. It was as if our waiter literally forgot about us. So finally the french toast comes, we're a party of 2. Only gives me utensils even though this is obviously a shareable meal and did not give us napkins. It took us having to ask the bus boys to get us napkins & more utensils & asking for refills on our water later after we finished this plate. Then our latte & cappuccino finally came. As we finished our plate, waiter sees our finished plate of french toast with the used utensils on this plate, he asks 'do we want to keep the fork' when we haven't even gotten our entree yet. Why would I keep a used for fork for the entrees!? You're supposed to give new utensils for each meal. I ignore it and few mins my girl gets her food. It tasted great even though they overcooked the medium fried egg. My food did not come out until 20 mins after she got her food, mind you this is the special they offered & made a big deal about. Overall, this is not an isolated experience. Other black people had way longer wait times to the point they left. The same waiter accidentally spilt sparkling water on another patron & the management came out trying to figure where this plate of food should go to which table thinking it was my girls plate. It was so much confusion & chaos from the kitchen to the service that biggest saving grace was the work of the bus boys. They were more of help than our sever. So after 20 + mins of waiting, my jerk chicken omelette finally came out and it was the most mid jerk chicken I've ever had. You can barely taste any of the jerk marinade or spices. Very disappointing for as long as we had to wait for our food, while at the same time the white couple that came 20 mins after us got their omelettes at the same time & quicker than me. I will never recommend this location to anyone unless you're picking up the food to go. There are so many great black restaurants that do brunch way better with amazing service. Don't waste your time at this location. Would...
Read moreWent in to grab kids breakfast with banana and strawberries, they rant out bananas and decided to add blue berries to my daughters food who is allergic and doesn't even like blueberries without notice or asking if its ok. i was charged $30 for this meal because of special request due to fact they dont normally put banana and strawberries ln their pancakes, but thats how we wanted it. Ordered steak for myself with my gravy on the side. Got home to eat and prepare to go to work, and instead i have blue berries in my Childs meal, and no gravy or hot peppers like i asked for. Called only to have the server start questioning me and denying i order the whats boldly written on my receipt and charged for. There was no “sorry for our mistake and how can we fix this”. But rather “if we dint put the gravy just drive back here and we can refund you $1.50 or give you a cup of gravy. I did my best to let her know i am 30 minutes away and i am about to just eat and go to work so i do not have the luxury of driving there again. No care was given. This could have been taken cared of by a sincere apology. Sorry we messed up, we will do better next time. But to treat a customer after spending $70 on my meal as if was begging for $1.50 or the 1.50 will make up the time loss and money wasted on my dried up steak. Oh and there is nothing they can do about the blue berries because i was not charged for for the banana request, which i was and because i didnt say no blue berries”….. i ordered plain pancakes with banana and strawberries alone, why should i have to be worried about blue berries? Thats means, if i want burger, i must also let you know i dont want pasta? If you didn't have banana, just tell me that while i was waiting instead of making your own choice without given any ffffs. I can honestly say i am very disappointed because the location in Lincoln park would have done...
Read moreI can go to IHOP for a better experience. Food cold 2. Table was not cleaned was told will send busboy to clean table. Coffee comes table still not cleaned was told. Waitress hands us some napkins. 3. Clearly training is lacking- I noted my cream was carried out in a silver cup by hand. I watched as the young man walked slowly so he would not spill. Place the cup on a plate or tray with the coffee. 4. Pricey - everything is alacarte. $20 for French toast which amounts to two slices of bread cut in half with a tablespoon of pie filling on top. 5. We’re at a small table for two and had six plates- ridiculous. 6. Had to ask for coffee refill - no check in the table if we needed anything. 7. Did not offer separate checks - should not assume patrons will do 50/50 split when their orders are different. Tables too close - we were asked to move our chairs because patrons behind us could not get in their chairs and our table backed to a wall. Our table also was not level - I had to tuck a folded napkin under the base or risk my coffee sloshing. 9. noise level too loud. I called in to inquire about reservations and the person answering could not hear me. 10. One plus the bacon was crispy the way I like it. But even in that note u won’t be returning. There are far too many places for breakfast with better service, greater selection, more reasonable,...
