This place looks great on instagram, but I was disappointed in my overall experience. I didn’t know it was counter service. I paid $30 for a Big Mik and a smoothie. The quality of food was not great and could have easily been half the price. For this being a vegan Big Mac, the burger was tiny! I support veggie/vegan options, but the poor service is what motivated me to write this review. I sat at a corner table far away from the door because I have sensory issues. A delivery driver came in and his phone was extremely loud. I asked him to turn it down because I could hear it all the way across the restaurant and he refused, so I asked the cashier to talk to him because it was disturbing my meal. I overheard them speaking in Spanish for a bit, and she came over to tell me that he didn’t understand me. I said his phone was still too loud and she walked away from me. He made his phone louder after she talked him. Staff doesn’t care about its dine in customers. Why not close the dining room if all you care about is your rude delivery drivers? My meal was served in a plastic take out container and all in all looked kinda trashy. It’s a shame, because this place has so much potential. I’d rather go to Chicago Diner. Their food is better and the staff actually cares about its customers.

So, I really wanted to like this place. I followed them on Instagram and saw they had a lot of celebrity endorsements. My sister who is Vegan wanted to go when visited Chicago. We went on August 18th and were just underwhelmed. I meant to order the Philly cheese steak rolls, but cashier misunderstood me, and I got the Philly chik'n egg rolls instead. They tasted okay, but it wasn't great. Now my sister, who is vegan, started asking questions about the ingredients because it seemed like everything on the menu had impossible meat. The cashier really couldn't tell us what the impossible meat was made of. She asked if she could substitute the impossible meat with mushrooms and the guy said that they didn't have any. I tasted my sister's food Philly Steak and I didn't like it either. We also had the fries, and nothing stood out from fries there and fries at other places. My family loves to eat and after we discussed how we felt about the food and we all came the same conclusion which was the food was okay, but this is not anywhere that we need to revisit. On the bright side the vibe of the restaurant is nice, but I think actual vegans or plant-based eaters will want a more versatile menu.

This was my first time trying the restaurant Can’t Believe It’s Not Meat. I follow them on instagram and i have seen all the hype, so I was excited to see they opened the Old Town location and that they delivered thru UberEats. I ordered the “who betta” burger and added bacon. I ordered the loaded fries. I also ordered the boneless buffalo wings. I started with the wings. They tasted a bit like old grease. They were also soggy. Just a bit soggy, though. That could be due to the travel. However, the old grease taste. That aftertaste was a no for me. The best thing was the seasoned fries. The loaded fries were good. That burger though. A no for me. Something on it smelled sour. It smelled like something was spoiled. I only ate half of the burger because i couldn’t stand the smell long enough to finish it. Maybe because i dont eat meatless often, it didn’t appeal to me. However, i have had meatless meat from the store and made a burger at home and it NEVER had that rancid smell. I didnt enjoy the food. Im glad i tried them because i have been wanting to, but it is too expensive for me to go back and not enjoy what im eating

UPDATE (as of Sept 2024): Unfortunately, I hate to write this but ever since they moved from the Gold Coast (Wells St) location to River North (they share a space w/ Soul Vibez now), service has kind of been a nightmare. EVERY TIME I carry out from here now, it’s always an issue. Today, I received a discount coupon via ChowNow, hadn’t eaten here in a bit, so decided to grab carry out. I placed the order ahead of time, but when I got to the restaurant (after receiving a confirmation email on the time the order should be ready), I was told they don’t use ChowNow anymore, so they never received the order. NO WHERE on the website does it state this. Plus if you receive automated emails for a restaurant, via a food service, most customers will assume they still use it, especially if that service takes your order/money and confirms.

But I let that go, the guy at the front desk was kind, and he took my order back to the kitchen to make, plus gave me a 10min wait time. I saw how busy they were inside, so instead of hovering, I ran to the grocery store, and came back to the restaurant 20mins later. The front desk guy remembered me and gave me my order. However, when I checked it, the order was completely incorrect sigh.

So here I am, sitting in my car, updating my previous review and waiting AGAIN on my food. Listen, I try and give grace to restaurants, understanding mistakes happen, but it was important I took the time to write this so that perhaps, if management reads this, they will work on the service in the kitchen at this new location! I miss the punctuality of the Wells St location 😢. Just because food is good doesn’t mean us as customers do not want good service attached!

I’ve been to a few of the Can’t Believe It’s Not Meat locations. This was my 1st time to this one. My server, Rianne, was inattentive. Her excuse for not coming to take my order was because she seen me on the phone & stated she didn’t want to be rude. However, always ask for clarity instead of ASSuming is key. She could’ve easily asked if I was ready to order & I could’ve either placed my order or told her to come back in 10 min, etc. It’s a simple thing to do instead of having a customer waiting to be serviced. I went inside & sat down for a reason, and it was to eat!

Then during my stay she only came by once to check on me. At one point I had to end up asking another employee for ketchup & another sweet & sour sauce because she simply wasn’t good at doing her job. However, I did tip her a small amount due to being a past server myself. My meal also didn’t taste very good. It was ok. As stated prior I’ve been to a few of the other locations. I get the same meal every time. This is the first time it just had a different taste to it. And my fries weren’t crispy. They were soft & soggy. I didn’t make a big deal about it, because honestly I just got off of work, was tired & hungry. However, this place disappointed me & wasn’t worth the money I spent. The only thing going for this place is the beautiful decor & atmosphere. However, the taste of the food & poor customer service make it a place I rather not return to nor spend...

Certainly! Here's a cleaner version of your message:

I had a very disappointing experience with my recent Thanksgiving order. I opted for the "Can’t-Believe-It-Is-Not-Me" option, specifically requesting the meals to be prepared cold. I placed the order on Monday for pickup on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the River North location.

I arrived early at the store and called at 7:45 p.m. to confirm my order was ready. I was told it would be ready at 8 p.m. After parking and paying for parking, I entered the store at the scheduled time only to be told the order would take an additional 10 minutes. However, I ended up waiting 30 minutes for the food to be prepared and bagged, with no apology or offer of compensation for the delay.

To add to the frustration, I received the food hot instead of cold, despite having prepaid $150 for meals that were specifically meant to be reheated the next day. The experience was far from acceptable, given the order was placed and prepaid two days in advance, confirmed shortly before pickup, and still resulted in a delay and incorrect preparation.

Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and address the issues with both the delay and the incorrect fulfillment of my order.

Let me know if you'd like to adjust...
