Gayle V's Best Ever Grilled Cheese — Restaurant in Chicago

If i could give this place 0 stars I would because the owner was a snarky, MEAN SPIRITED woman. When I read the menu, I was under the impression that I was looking at sandwich descriptions because there is no label that tells you the place ONLY sells grill cheeses. Now it does say grill cheese in the name but a lot of places will have a specific item in their name but offer things outside of that. For example “jutown polish” has burgers or “tony’s Philly cheese steaks” sell gyros etc. I ordered a sandwich which totaled to $18. I kid you not, I received two pieces of bread, 3-4 pieces of meat and a piece of cheese. When I told the owner that this did not meet my expectations of a $18 meal (no drink or side included) the lady got so nasty. “Well did you at least try it” “how do you know if you like it if you haven’t tasted it. Just eat the sandwich!” “well that’s what you ordered” “ no we can’t take it back” I told her I wasn’t eating it because I’m not keeping it. I wanted my money back and she can take the sandwich back—keep in mind I never physically touched it—but I knew it was worth basically $20! The only reason she gave my money back was because my classmate started to record her being disrespectful towards me. Never again. Super over-priced and not worth it. No business owner should ever conduct herself in the manner she did.

Edit to the owners reply: I have a video of you being rude and dismissive. Google doesn’t allow for videos but every other platform does. Someone no longer wanting an item from your business, whether it be due to the taste or for personal reasons, does not warrant you to be argumentative...

The best grilled cheese I have ever had, hands down.

I got the pulled pork grilled cheese and my daughter got the Mac n Grilled cheese. They had local brand soda, and not the major brands which was fun and refreshing.

Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese : The pork was well cooked and flavorful, with a reasonable serving for the sandwich. It had a unique slaw with apple which gave it a sweet crisp flavor that was surprising and pleasant. The texture added a nice little pop to the sandwich. The bread, grilled to absolute perfection! I can not over state this enough. It was crisp and crunch without being dry or loaing flavor.

Mac n Grilled cheese: The pasta was perfectly cooked, a common issue of Mac and cheese on toasted sandwiches ( overcooked pasta that leads to. Soggy mess) was nowhere to be seen. The cheese pull was IMPRESSIVE and the cheese was mixed well across the full sandwich. Again bread was crisp and perfect.

The sandwiches are a good size for their value, even if they aren't the over sized sandwiches Some have come to expect. However, what you don't get in physical size you get in flavor and higher quality ingredients.

100/10 would recommend (and have considered making the 2 hour drive back just for this sandwhich)

The staff was friendly, the atmosphere peaceful, and food brought right to your table. Take a chance and give this lovely...

Stopped by here for lunch and I was optimistic because they was someone playing the guitar near the door for the guests. Unfortunately I found the food and service quite disappointing.

Food: It is definitely overpriced as everyone else mentioned. The sandwiches look much smaller and less filled compared to the pictures on their site and menu. The worst part is paying $15 bucks for a sandwich that didn't taste that great. The Chicago Fire sandwich is supposedly loaded with cheese, sopressata, and jalapenos but somehow despite a combination that sounds good on paper it turned out quite lacking in flavor and spice. The tomato soup was pretty bland as well, and I could not tell if there was any pesto in it at all.

Service: The lady taking my order left in the middle of it to take answer a call on her cell phone. Highly unprofessional. And their guest WiFi does not work, which sucks because they are located underground where there is no mobile data connection.

Summary: Overpriced sandwiches. Bland soup....
