Came in on a Sunday evening around 5:15, we ordered two cappucinos and two croissants.
The coffee itself was okay, nothing special. The same can be said for the interior design. The pastys we're a little sub par but we came in the early evening so they also weren't the freshest.
The staff was a mixed bag. There was a man who was very warm and welcoming. Me and my girlfriend are on Holiday from the EU and it was a great example of the cities positivity.
But then there was this woman (or perhaps man, I've been told some people in the US get offended if you assume their gender) who seemingly, intentionally ruined the experience for no identifiable reason.
I just assumed she was having a bad day and couldn't be bothered to be pleasant with others but I was shocked that this person would be employeed in a position that interacted with customers.
Overall the place is okay but it is wayyyy to expensive for the quality of food and service. I'd highly recommend instead visitng Sawada coffee or Good amber right...

Unlike their Green counterpart, La Colombe has strived to retain their coffee soul. Sorry Howard, no devils crossroads in Philly.
I’ve ordered my usual. A cappuccino, in a mug, a bit dry.
La Colombe has proven you don’t need to sell out to serve the masses. My cappuccino is simply delicious. Flavor forward, not bitter at all, and the foam creates just the right, smooth confection some of us require to start our day. A respite if you will.
Moreover, the craftsmanship is a testament La Colombe strikes a balance between scale and passion.
If you find yourself walking one of the neighborhoods high fashion stores, step on over to La Colombe in State Street and loose yourself for a...
Read moreLa Colombe is probably my favorite coffee shop in Chicago, but the Gold Coast location is horrible. I have been coming to this location for a year and a half always giving the staff unconditional positive regard for being rude, apathetic, etc. It gets busy, customers can be rude, or someone could just be having a bad day. But at this point it never changes it’s the entire locations culture. I hate that they serve oat draft lattes on ice by default - it’s like putting beer over ice. I always order no ice and last time I was in she put it on ice. When I kindly asked for no ice she dumped it through the drinking lid to strain out ice and gave it to me in a new cup. Horrible experience and has made me bring my business elsewhere. Now La Colombe is a treat when I can make it to the amazing Lincoln...
