It was a very long wait for bad food, subpar service, and a chaotic enviornment.
My husband and I have been wanting to visit The Streeterville Social in Chicago for a long time. From reading all of the online reviews and seeing the pretty photos of the restaurant, we were really expecting top notch food and a terrific dining experience. What a dissapointment!
Most of the food ordered for the table was TERRIBLE, over priced, and so over spiced that it was nearly inedible. The food just had bad flavor in general. It was delivered to us by a server whose attitude seemed to be "I couldn't care less." We were horribly embarrassed that this was the dining experience we provided to our guests from The United Kingdom. This was their very first visit to Chicago and only their second visit to The United States. We wanted them to have a pleasant dining experience on their first night in Chicago. I found out later, they didn't care for the food either. I said nothing to the server about our meals, because:
The music was so loud you had to shout to be heard by the person sitting next to you. There are not enough umbrellas to give adequate shade in the blinding sun. The vibe wasn't relaxed at all. It was hot and chaotic. Maybe this is really just a place for a twenty something crowd, I don't know. Anyway, I am really upset that so much money was wasted on that awful food and experience. We were completely dissatisified and we will...
Read moreWe had family staying at this hotel and they invited up up for some drinks before we went out to dinner. They used to have games like corn hole etc that you could play but we were notified that those are now only available for special and private events. Half of the rooftop area was closed off for a wedding. We were seated in a lounge area which was nice with couches and pillows. We had a small view of the river from where we were sitting, but it was still a nice view. We all ordered drinks at the same time. It took over 10 minutes for 3 drinks to be brought out (by the way these were not mixed drinks), then almost another 10 minutes for 5 other drinks to be brought out. We weren't necessarily in a hurry, but we needed to head out for our dinner reservation shortly and yet half of us still did not have drinks. By the time we asked for our bill we were officially in a hurry. Half of our group was charging drinks to their room and the other half of us were on one bill paying with a card. On the bill that was paying with a card they automatically added a 20% tip. That was ridiculous, we had HORRIBLE service (It shouldn't take over 20 minutes for drinks to be brought out), if we hadn't been in such a rush we would have talked to someone about the tip because they definitely didn't do that great of a job. I wouldn't return here, there are plenty of other great rooftop bars to go to in the city. This was...
Read moreWhere to start? They called us 10 minutes before our reservation saying “the kitchen was broken” but we could still come have drinks. This was on a Saturday evening on a holiday weekend, so we weren’t sure if we’d be able to sit down anywhere else, especially with a larger group, so we asked if we would be permitted to bring in outside food, to which we were rudely told no. The host continued to have an attitude towards us. Then we were informed the kitchen was working again and were taken to our seats where we were reminded multiple times we had 2 hours and no more to sit and eat. Our group had made 2 reservations but one of our groups was sat at the sofas, which is super ineffective for actually eating food. Most of us had to eat with our plates in our laps, which for the price and “experience” cost is unacceptable. We were also seated behind plants and a concrete barrier so we couldn’t see much of the “rooftop” view. Additionally, one of our groups was asked for a card to hold, the other was not. Incredibly unprofessional, this should be a policy for all guests or no one. I paid $16 for maybe 6 oz of a cocktail and $24 for an average burger. Maybe happy hour is more worth it but dinner is certainly not, especially considering the less than stellar service and the fact that your rooftop view comes with...
