Where to start with this little gem .
The staff are just what you want from your local bar . They are very good at making drinks , they are very welcoming . Literally the only bar I have been to where a bartender greets you . Seems simple right ? It’s not . Most bars have the typical situation 4 bartenders and everyone is just too busy . When really they are just too cool for school and you are wearing the wrong outfit . No these guys and girls at Longfellow are really nice , and accommodating .
The drinks are great . The ice is hand-made. The cocktails are affordable . Most likely one of the most affordable of many bars in OTR.
The interior is a simple , tasteful , and considered. At first I didn’t understand the curved bar layout . It seemed wasteful and not the best use of space. However after a few nights of casual drinks , you start to chat with new faces and some old all around...the bar. It’s really quite charming . You can see someone interesting , or maybe poke fun of someone across the way. Though this bar has a pretty consistent group of hip young people . Though if you are a bit older and can hang , this spot is for you. I would say come before 9-10pm and it would be family friendly , just now it is a bar haha.
THEY OFFER FOOD!!! Ok everyone this is huge ! A bar that makes great food. Yes I know all of you cultured folks whom have traveled to Europe , this will be nothing new for you. But for the general public this is quite different . You can get some awesome pirogies after 11pm and a wonderful scrap sandwich with a carrot salad from 5-11pm.
Don’t sleep on this spot , I’m sure now , everyone knows and the cats out of the bag . So don’t be lame and stick to just vine street , venture over to walnut and Main Street and On the way stop by...
Read moreDear Longfellow,
I wanted to take a moment to express my praise and appreciation for the exceptional bar program you have established at Longfellow Bar. It truly stands out as a class act in Cincinnati. The experience you provide is nothing short of wonderful, and it's clear that a lot of thought and care goes into every detail.
Furthermore, the entire umbrella of establishments you oversee in the city is phenomenal. Each one brings something unique and valuable to our community, and it's a testament to your vision and dedication.
As a local resident deeply invested in the continued growth and revitalization of our neighborhoods, I wanted to share a thought that has been on my mind. With the exciting rebirth happening north of Liberty Street, particularly around the Findlay Market area, there seems to be a perfect opportunity for a new venture. A speakeasy in this vibrant and historic neighborhood could be a beautiful addition, tying seamlessly into the local culture and atmosphere.
A high-end, elevated bar program in a speakeasy format would not only switch things up a bit within your company but also likely become a big hit in the area. It could offer a unique and sophisticated experience that complements the existing character of Findlay Market and its surroundings.
Thank you for considering this idea. I have no doubt that whatever you decide to pursue next will be met with great success, given your proven track record.
Best...
Read moreI rated Longfellow 5/5 years ago when it opened and it is still 5/5 to this day.
You have: a fun vibe, intimate size, in the heart of OTR, with a variety of interesting cocktails, nice liquor, and lots of beer options too. And awesome food. Service is always very friendly and laidback.
I really can't think of a single thing I would change about Longfellow, which says a lot. I've lived here for a decade and tried virtually every bar around OTR, Downtown, etc, and I can't think of any other that nails all the details as well as Longfellow.
While it has grown to be quite popular, it still feels like a hidden gem. The owner, Mike, is also a very cool guy that spends plenty of time in his bars and genuinely cares to make sure everyone has a good time. In retrospect, it makes you wish every bar was run this well!
If you stop in and find Longfellow packed, check out their sister bar and restaurant Mid-City on Court Street, just a few blocks away. It's a little bougier but still very much a bar "for the people" and always a good time as well. Cheers! 🥃
I won't say too much about the Other Room / secret back bar, but check it out too for something different (usually open on...
