Zero stars would be most appropriate here. Arrived at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday July 27th. A couple of cars in the drive-thru. We walked inside. We were so excited to get a vanilla custard with butterscotch sauce. Our first impression of this place was that it is filthy from floor to ceiling. There is a busted down empty cooler that greets you when you walk in, with a sign on it that says out of order. There were two female employees, maybe 20 years old, dark hair, that didn't even bother to say hello when we walked in, and both seemed completely annoyed that we were even there. One of them was assisting the only customer ahead of us, which seemed to be taking a lifetime for that customer to get one dish of custard, the other one at the drive-thru. When we finally got one of the employees to come over and assist us, she turned and looked at us and said what can I get you in a completely annoyed tone, and body language to match. My response was how come you're not smiling you work in an ice cream store? No response, and no change in attitude. Since their menu indicated they had vanilla custard and they had butterscotch sauce that's what we ordered. Only to be greeted with yet another annoyed look from her as well as a snarky comment telling us they don't have butterscotch anymore. Although it is still on their sign as being available. I used to drive by and feel bad for this place because there never seemed to be a lot of customers. As a former business owner myself I try to help other small business owners be successful by going to their establishments. After this experience, nope! I don't wish bad on anyone but this business does not deserve Canandaigua's money. They should take all of their scowly employees, fire them, and close up shop! As luck would have it there is a better option. Take the time to travel over to Sharks Frozen Custard on 5 & 20. Great service there, great portion size, and not nearly as expensive as this dump! Never going back to Abbott's....
Read moreSo. Where to begin. I've been getting Abbots custard and shakes at locations around Rochester my whole life (am 38), grew up in Henrietta. However... yea no never again. First off it took literally 20min to get served at the drivethru. No one in front of us, several ppl behind us. We order an oreo milkshake. Splurge on the Monster size, $8. My GF, fresh out of surgery up the road here, really wanted a good milkshake. Lady taking our order says they don't have tops for the big size, can she put it in two small ones. No problem. Milkshakes come back. No whipped cream, only one straw for the two cups. Have to wait 2min before I can get an "excuse me" through the window to get her attention (still 3-4 cars waiting behind me). Before I can ask for the whip and a straw, my GF actually takes a sip. "This is aweful". I try it. It's like stale oreo crumbs floating in thin watery milk-like stuff. Not a shake. I've had a lot of shakes in my day. This was a terrible not-a-shake thing. We inform her that the shake is no good. She explains that's just how they are, that they can only add so much custard. Did I mention this shake* had the consistency of basically straight milk? I tell her we don't want them, can we get a refund. She says NO. Cause we sipped them. Now, clearly just improvising, she offers $5 back after I ask her a couple times if she's serious about no refund. Awkwardness ensues. We take a $5 bill and drive off less $3 with no milkshake for my GF with the sore, just-been-intubated-for-hours throat. Start driving home. She - still a little out of it from anesthesia - ends up crying about 15min later on the way home instead of enjoying a delicious custard shake.
Worst service at an ice cream / custard shop ever. Like I'm still confused by how aweful it was.
Pass this place - there are other options in Canandaigua. And certainly better custard to be had in the greater area anyway. Abbots just lost a...
Read moreGreat custard. Price is comparable to other venues serving ice cream or custard. Our family has enjoyed Abbotts Custard for years and it is our preference when buying custard at the counter or at the drive through locations. Flavors are great at Abbotts. Every day the flavors include Vanilla, Chocolate, and Chocolate Almond (with real sliced almonds). Call to inquire about any of the other flavors that are available for the day that you call: Banana, Black Raspberry, Coffee, and usually one NSA (No Sugar Added) flavor. Ask them at the window or across the counter for the percentage of regular sugar content in the NSA flavor. I am diabetic, so I ask. Enjoy your very...
