We traveled to Frankenmuth for the 2023 World Expo of Beer (WEB), and after a long day of sampling beer & ciders, we needed some food that didn't come from a food truck.
Most places close early in Frankenmuth during winter months (summer hours start after Memorial Day), so there weren't many choices. We did a little research for restaurants open late and found T. Dubs Pizzeria & Pub was open until 10:00. But, for the WEB, they had this announcement on their website:
T.Dub's has extended its hours for WEB weekend: Friday, May 19, we are open until 11p & Sat., May 20, we are open until 11:30p - hope to see you here! Happy World Expo of Beer! 🍺🍻
So we found the right place for dinner! They are conveniently located in downtown Frankenmuth and are a short drive from our Hotel.
We immediately sat and found the cocktail menu in a leather-jacketed binder. Several of their signature cocktails were intriguing.
When I ordered a Smoked Maple Old Fashioned, our waitress told me that was the only drink they were out of. So, of course, I had to ask, "What, smoke, maple, or old fashioned?" Trying to be funny. I was impressed that she knew that before leaving our table.
She offered me a not-so-old-fashioned, so I agreed to the substitution. It was terrible, honestly. It tasted like it was strained through my grandma's knee highs, not that I know what that would be like… The bitters were way too present in the drink.
My wife ordered a blueberry Moscow Mule, and that was delicious!
For food, I ordered a "When In Philly" cheese steak sub. It was good, but the steak was overcooked so much that it was dry. Several pieces of steak that weren't covered in onion and cheese charred while the sandwich was under the broiler.
The homemade chips that I ordered were left in the deep fryer too long, and those, too, were burned. Even sprinkled with ranch dressing powder, they were inedible.
My wife ordered a Hot Turkey sandwich made with shredded turkey. It was messy, so it didn't present well, but it's a hot turkey sandwich! The shredded turkey was dry, like it sat in a warmer without a lid, but it was delicious.
The kitchen was super-fast with getting our meals prepared and delivered to the table. That was amazing. We were seated near the kitchen, and I watched a steady stream of employees flowing in and out of the swinging doors delivering dishes to tables.
Our waitress came by after noticing my drink glass was empty, asking if I wanted another Old Fashioned; I told her no, the last one was terrible. She said, "I'm sorry. Would you like something else?" I ordered a draught beer because I didn't want to take any chances with another $15.00 cocktail.
After another ten minutes, we were done eating. That's when our waitress brought us the bill and asked how our meals were. We had to report that they were not very good, burned potato chips and dry turkey. Another "I'm sorry." then she left with my credit card. After running the card, she apologized again.
I signed the charge slip and tipped her. A few moments later, the manager came by our table asking how our meals were. We shared the details, and she, too, apologized, asking what she could do to correct things.
There wasn't much she could do since we were done and paid for. She offered us drinks, but we declined. After a long day of sampling beer and cider, we were done.
More attention from our server in a timelier manner would have addressed all our concerns. Hopefully, our feedback will provide good content for future training for the staff.
The interior design and atmosphere are awesome here, so we'll return and give them another try the next time we are in Michigan's...
Read moreWas VERY DISAPOINTED this time . Came in told the girl at back door two please . She said it would be a 30 min wait. We said ok and stood waiting for around 45 mins. Seeing table after table open up, so I finally said there's a two top open can we take that. She said there are people ahead of you still. I said, "Where are they outside? she said no we sent them a message...??.. a message I said ???? She said yes, they're out shopping so we page them . ( ME )Well, how long do they have to get here for their table? She says 10 mins. I said, "You mean the people aren't here yet and we've been standing here for OVER 45 mins. and they have precedence over us ? She said well did you give me a name ??? I said WHAT ??? you never asked us for a name !!! She said well I thought you were going to sit at the bar .( ME) Are you kidding me? We never said we were going to sit at the bar ! And we've been standing here for now 1 hour and I've been asking you several times about a table. She then said whats your name ? I gave it to her and she said well , there's a THIRTY MINUTE wait . OMG at this point I wanted to come unglued . I said Mame we have been standing here in plan site for over an hour now I really dont think we should wait 30 more mins ... she walked away and there we stood. Finally after 10 more mins. a man sitting at the bar came over and said ladies (were in our 70's) whats going on you've been here for a very long time .I said I know . He said well were leaving so you can have our seats. We thanked him & your bar tender was very nice. z He took our drink and food order and within 20 mins, we were eating. Now we love your place and eat there every time we're in town ( from Hastings Mi. ) which is alot, and we tell everyone who is coming to Frankenmuth to eat at T DUBS ! We've been asked alot from people visiting where's a good place to eat ?? A big shout out is T DUBS and we give them directions. However, I'm a bit hesitant in telling people if they are going to be treated like we were. I've been in business for over 40 years and if any of my employees treated anyone like we were treated they'd be seaking employment somewhere else.! Thank you for your time, Linda Rogers... 3011 Heath...
Read moreWaited up front to be seated for 8 minutes. Boyfriend had to go up to a server to see if we could just sit down with our two small kids. Find a table and the owner asks us to move away from her table where she’s having a meeting. Only two servers in the whole place, they’re drowning and they’re busy at 9am. Won’t be back.
FUNNY!!! It was NOT 2 minutes we stood up front for a long time without being acknowledged. Goes to show what kind of establishment you run after that type of response. You 100% told us that we couldn’t sit at the table we were trying to sit at because it was too close to your “meeting” and if you didn’t realize there were absolutely 0 booths available! The one that was open was stacked full of dirty dishes because AGAIN your servers were drowning and you didn’t even have a hostess on shift because what your too cheap? Yes sounds like you are. No one was directing us anywhere because the servers were way too busy to even find us a table and told us to sit wherever. You, the owner stood there looking around on where to sit us that wasn’t close to you. You weren’t directing us anywhere. Just standing there dumbfounded. So OF COURSE WE LEFT. Did you expect us to stay and get shitty and slow service while we have two hungry kiddos? No. Did you expect us to stay after waiting to be sat and being unacknowledged for 8 MINUTES and then being told directly by the owner we can’t sit at the table we were choosing? NO! But go ahead and make up some lies. And OF COURSE your going to get dirty looks like that when your an owner of an establishment treating customers as you did. You just didn’t want a baby and toddler sitting next to your meeting and annoying you. There were only 5 other tables left in the whole place and NONE were booths. Do better and hire more staff especially the WEEK of CHRISTMAS when you know...
