When I want my head to be clear of the many intersecting thoughts about the world and my own life in it this is where I literally run to. Once I smell, hear and see the ocean, I fully let go. It's like a stuffy nostril that instantly becomes open and air can once again flow in and out freely. This boardwalk has helped restore mental and emotional balance in my life starting with a divorce I didn't want but had to file, to loosing my house due to that ex-husband secretly not paying the mortgage, to face being unhoused with my 4 children including one who is autistic and nonverbal. Then having multiple college degrees, years of professional experience, prior ownership of a business and yet and still cannot get a job or at least one that will pay me based on my professional worth and not have me underemployed or unemployed, it is THIS BOARDWALK that keeps me sane. No substance use in my entire life, alcohol or drugs, so this place of peace and forgetting I relish in. Whether for exercise, people watching or the simple joy of looking at the waves of God's creation come to this FREE boardwalk to stay in tune with your greater self. Love yourself first. And here is one way. Be well....
Read moreCan get there by LIRR to Long Beach stop. We've only driven there. There's a toll plaza via the NY-878/Nassau Expressway/Atlantic Beach Bridge, a drawbridge. Or via Long Beach Blvd. which is around the middle of the island to/from the Oceanside area. Or via Loop Parkway which is more to/from eastern direction.
By New York Ave, there's a ramp to the well-maintained boardwalk, with access ramps to the beach. Outdoor showers by the beach ramps. Clean restrooms. Snack place nearby.
Please check their website for updated info. For this year, Beach passes are needed to get on the beach at specified times, $15/day for non-residents. We've gone at 5pm when it isn't too hot and passes no longer required. Not crowded the times we've gone. The sand/beach is very clean. Lifeguards only til 6pm. They were strict with the flags; will call your attention with their whistles if you swim outside the...
Read moreI was prepared that Long Beach would cost money to enter. I thought 15 dollars per person sounded pretty expensive, but hey it's NY and I was certain they'd have something special given the cost. Honestly, it's just a beach. There's literally nothing on the beach itself. No entertainment, no pier, no food, even restrooms are on the boardwalk. Let's talk about this boardwalk whilst on the topic. There's nothing there! A bunch of ugly high rise blocks that give it a run down look. I'd already paid to get a train in so I made use of the sea and the clean beach. Overall the beach is ok. It kinda just felt like Rockaway Beach, and other free beaches in the NY, which I honestly prefer. The sea is ok for this part of the USA. A little brown and it can be a little 'fresh'. I wish I could fathom the cost and why it's so highly rated. I guess it's good if you live locally. I hope the residents...
